Is this a string bet??? Is this a string bet???

This is the standard Commerce way of raising in limit hold 'em. It annoys the piss out of me as it is basically a string bet, but no one ever calls it, and bc no one ever calls it, you could never actually get it called on anyone. I would never dare throw out chips like that for fear of getting called for a string bet. All that said, I don't think it should be called a string bet if only for the convention that is so popular in LA.

When I'm going to bet 30 or 40 and there's an opponent on the far side of the table from me, instead of stacking the chips I often spray them just like that but a bit cross ways. It's easier for the other guy to see two little lines of 4 chips than to have to stare and try to figure out if there are 3, 4 or 5 chips in each stack.

Silly me. Here I thought I was doing a service for the other player when all along I was a dirty angle shooting string better.

How would you determine the size of the bet if a player takes his handful of chips across the line, drops some, and return the remainder to his stack? I know if only one person that works in the industry that has a good understanding of the game that thinks the line is a good idea.
The line is designed to stop that stupid crap. Any chip that passes the line is not in the pot. It usually is more than the min raise to the whole stack stands as the raise.

Actually the line is designed so if someone doens't put their bet where the dealer can reach it he can ask them to place it over the line so he can reach it.

Let me make it clearer. A player has a stack of chips (approx 30 chips) he picks up a portion from the top of the stack (but not the entire stack) and drops some into the pot (not all of them) and then returns the remainder to the top of his stack (at no time did he invite the dealer to count how many are in his hand), how does the magical line determine how many of the chips go into the pot. Also, how is it determined if chips crossed the line? In tennis there are a lot of lines, but there is a judge looking down each line. Should we add a line judge to poker? The person sitting in the dealer's chair cannot tell if someone's hand crossed or didn't cross the line.

Big deal.

The string bet ruling saved you $25 because he was calling $50 anyway.

Unless you gave him your stack because you were pissed off anyway in which case it didn't matter.

it happens, i was called for string betting for the first time ever. I knew when I placed my bet I did it, I actually called myself on it, it wasnt a big deal, I didn't mean too the dealer knew it wasnt intentional and so did the other players who I was at the table with for a few hours, i was tired and distracted and it happened.

on a side note it worked, where the guy who was drawing pretty much told you he didnt have **** and didnt like the bet, cause trust me when I have the nuts and someone string bets me, i am not stopping them for putting their money in.

I think people get a bit over worked on string betting and slow rolling.
