Hello,

I am thinking of taking a trip for a few days to play some cards. It'll be just me and I'm looking for a place that is great for poker - both cash and tourny play. I've been to Vegas many times..looking for something different. I live in WI, raised on the east coast so I've been to AC many times too. Any suggestions? I went to Tunica a few years ago and though I enjoyed it, there was nothing around the casinos. Been to Reno...wasn't a huge fan...

How about St. Louis? Detroit? I am willing to fly as well.

Thanks!

Albequeque NM is a fun city to visit and there are 4 casinos in the area close by with good poker action. I go there regulary for business and always enjoy it. And the university district is alot of fun.

Southern Oklahoma?

Yes, it's barren but Dallas is just over an hour away. Pretty good night life there, oh and the third largest casino in North America.

Los Angeles?. The Bike and Commerce Casino both have lots of action with a variety games and a wide variety of stakes. Obviously, the weather is a plus.

If having things to do other than poker is important and it appears to be, I would seriously consider Chicago. I think the Horseshoe Hammond is a bit overated but there are lots of things to do in Chicago and the Hammond Shoe isn't bad. They were terribly starved for a decent poker room for a long time and the Shoe got a little over-hyped but it is a good room, just not ZOMG, AWESOME!!!!, like the thread may lead you to believe.

Personally, I like ST Louis. Lots of good food and interesting things to do and the poker isn't bad, Mostly NL like everywhere but some mixed games, PLO and O/8 from time to time.

Missouri Botanical Garden FTW!, IMO. Here is a Youtube I made of our last St Louis trip. The weird African music is all Youtube would let me use that was long enough.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=08GtcLLlDiM

I heard there's some gambling in a town called Las Vegas.

Spoiler:
Seriously, if you haven't gone, you should.

LA is an excellent choice.

Just the sight of the big rooms of the Commerce, all the tables at play, is worth the trip for a poker player.

Go somewhere warm, get out of this miserable weather.

Head to LA,

San Diego also has several card rooms (though on the small side) And you can not beat So Cal coast. With an added bonus of heading south to Mexico to see the donkey and the bride...

Venice, you missed a few facts.

OP was born in South America, never been to the US. Is looking for a place to play BlackJack with a large group of friends. What would you recommend?

Foxwoods, Mohegan Sun, and you can visit Boston for the day if you want to do other things, Foxwoods has Daily Tourneys and Sit and Go's.

Thanks all. I have been to Foxwoods, although just once about 7 years ago. I loved it. Where would I ply into? Boston or Providence? Obviously I would need a car. Is there anything outside of Foxwoods to do besides Boston? How far away is New Haven from Foxwoods?

I was contemplating LA - always wanted to see the Commerce!

Is AC cleaned up now? I was raised in DE/PA border and all my memories of AC are of homeless and trashy streets. Has this changed at all or is the boardwalk still dirty?

Thanks!

go to New Orleans, cash games at Harrah's are donkalicious, and they run decent tourneys. Plus NOLA is an awesome city.

lol we're in the 30's today!! Snow is melting 1/64 inch at a time.

New Orleans? What casinos do you recommend? I've been to LA, just not NO.
I'm obviously going to for poker, but I do enjoy a nice bar and good beer as well. I am 31 if that means anything. Is it tough to find things to do there?

I see the Commerce and Borgata have a tournament series going on now - hmmm

As far as I know there is only one public poker room in New Orleans, that is at Harrahs. If Commerce is running a tourny and you have never been there to play poker you should head there. Albeit, I haven't been to Harrah's NO in about 5 years I remember it as a relatively normal to small sized room. Commerce on the other hand is a goliath poker room and with other quality poker rooms in the area like the Bike, you have lots of options.

How about Florida?

I hear they are having a big football game there in early Fedruary. Shouldn't be too hard to get tickets to it this far out, right?

Wait for the monsoon to end and go to LA. Plenty of good poker and mild weather.

AC is still a dump, I play there every week. Borgata is the only room worth your time.
