Soaring Eagle over the past few months has made some very exciting changes to thier poker room. They have recently added tons of new games and limits, and they claim to spread "any game, any limit." Also, there have been various cosmetic changes throughout the past few months; electronic shufflers, new felts, electronic list keeping, BBJ, a few new promotions. Really exciting to see this room starting to get back in shape again.

Specifically the most possitive change and most popular was the change to how they run NL cash games.

-New structures for NL games, higher stakes NL games.
* 1/2 NL, 400max
* 2/5 NL, 1kmax, allowed to add on 200bbs when below 100bbs. So essentially 1.5kmax, Game can get pretty deep and usually starts up and runs every night, and then all throughout the weekends.
*There has been interest for higher NL games and we have came close to getting some larger games running, just not yet. I definatly can see a regular 200bbmax buyin 5/10 NL game running on weekends in the near future.

So MI players come and check out the Soaring Eagle

Ryan,

I haven't been there since they closed the room (for the second time).
How much is the rake?
What is the current comp situation?
Are there any poker rates available?

So does that mean they no longer have $100 NL? Are they still spreading 3/6?

I love Soaring Eagle becuase, being under 21, it's the only casino I've ever been able to play in besides on cruise ships. I went there a few weeks and the poker room was nicer than it had ever been before, and as usual there were a million fish at the 1/2NL table donating.

Thrasher, do they still have $100 NL??!

As in 1/2 NL where you buy in for a max of 100? Not that I know of BUT most people on the weekends were buying in for about 100 anyway. One table I saw the stacks were much deeper for some reason (and it was still 1/2) but for the most part it still plays most ly like 100.

I just don't really like the idea of playing that deep. For some reason I've grown accustomed to short stack games and I'm not really sure how I would play in a deep stack game.

Yeah, most people buy in for 100 though as I said so it isn't that much of a problem. I know exactly what you mean though becuase no matter how fishy someone is it's still dangerous to butt heads with them if they have you outchipped 4 times over.

so buy in for your usual amount, right? The games I play have no cap, but I always buyin for 100xbb

How many tables of $2-5 do they usually have on the week and on weekends and what is the waiting list like? Since your post 2.5 weeks ago have they had a $5-10nl game? If so, how often does it run?

It's about time they increased the stack sizes.I went there over the summer and wasn't too impressed. The 1/2 no limit game had a 100 max buy in with a 10 dollar seating fee in addition to the 6.00 per half hour time fee, making the starting stack size a whopping 86.00. Our dealer was extremely slow and allowing people to sit at the table with 10 minutes left in his rotation before the new time charge rolled around. Everybody at the table was gambling it up in an attempt to beat the rake. Being from Lansing, I come out better playing at Trippers or Vinnie's new spot. The deeper stacks should make for a better game.

So does soaring eagle have any tourneys or sng's? I'm headin down there for the first time and just enjoy playing freezeouts a lot more than cash games. If they do have some freezeouts what is the range of buy-ins?

Thanks,
Nate

I hate these type of buy ins. How about just call it a 1k min/max? You could start with 500, drop to 495 and then buy another 1k instead of starting with 1k and losing 505 before buying another 1k. Here's a crazy idea...how about upping the buy in to 1.5k anyways? And I don't mean "you" as in RyanCMU, just as in general towards management.

I hate when management wants it to be several ways at once instead of one way or the other.

a 10.00 sitting charge and 12.00 an hour for rake? i guess they are slill mad for selling manhatten for 20.00.

i use to attempt to count cards at BJ and was told that on two seperate occasions they were caught shorting the decks of aces.

granted that they are convientent for central MI players, i would rather travel alittle further for a better game.

I was happy to see this thread bumped as I was planning on making a trip next weekend. If this seating fee and time charge are still in effect then I am going to Wheeling instead.

A seating charge? Can anyone else confirm that? Wow that's a load of bs if it's true. Most NL games that I know of in MI have a time charge (except MC's $2-5nl which rakes 10% up to $6 max).

Seems like if you're in Meecheegan, wheeling is a long haul, and if you're in Ohio, at least two of the Detroit casinos are better options than soaring eagle. If you've got a private plane, never mind.

I played there last weekend. No sitting charge. Not time charge. They just changed the $6/half hour to 10% rake up to $6, and of course they will reduce it upon request short handed. They even brought it down to $5 when we were 8 handed.

Well, I was there a little while ago. I wasn't too impressed.
There's defiantly better places to go to gamble in that area. But if you're under 21 like me, you're stuck with the Soaring Eagle.

I thought their seat charge + 6/hr was bad too.

I also dont like how you could sit down for like 50 bucks, lose a hand to 48 dollars and then plop on 100 bucks over your 48.

Now he's got a stack of 148 to everyone elses like, 86.

Have you read any of the previous posts, or do you just want to complain? There is no more seat charge, there is no more time charge.

Also, PLEASE pm me with where you're playing poker next, I'd like to sit at your table.

otter, ever since Ed took over at Greektown, they have had a rake instead of a time charge. Also, it's not NL, but still interesting to note that a few days ago, they started spreading 4/8. They had two tables going for awhile on Monday night and a list.

Other than the smoke, Greektown has improved significantly in the past 6 months.

- rake
- no cash on the table
- they usually answer the phone
- the new chicken wings are excellent

My only complaints are that they sometimes have a problem doing fills on a regular basis, but they seem to be improving in that area. Also, they occasionally have a few issues with bad dealers, but a few days ago, I had some problems with a dealer and the floor actually asked me to fill out a complaint report i.e. THEY CARE.

What kind of wait can I expect for 1/2 or 2/5 if I come up 5 pm on a weekday/weekend? I may be interested in trying to start a 5/10 but weekends aren't normally good for me.
