I know there were/are still some tournaments going on. What kind of cash games (games/stakes) are running and for how long? How is the action overall?

If your not there during tournament time, forget it.

I was there the last two weeks of December and had a hard time even finding a game.

The Grand add no game at 2pm........Sams Town had no game at 2pm.

Most places only had 1-3 tables of no limit running........and each table had 2-5 very good players.

I would hate to attempt making a living in Tunica playing No Limit.

On the other hand, the NL$1/3 games at the Gold Strike and Horseshoe are typically soft and same goes for the $3/6 (Gold Strike) and $4/8 (Horseshoe) limit games.

During tournaments, anything but limit hold em at Gold Strike, limit hold em action 15/30, 20/40, 30/60 at Horseshoe.

Games range from meh to pretty good, but rarely outstanding. I miss LA.

Is anybody there right now? Are the tourneys still going on? I have a few questions:

1. What are the highest NLHE games currently running?
2. What PLO games are running?
3. Any Omaha 8?

I don't understand why you had a hard time finding a game. Everytime I have been to the Shoe, there was always a 4-8, 10-20, and 20-40 limit game going on. Although I haven't been there in a few months, I'm sure the games haven't completely dried up. Is the poker boom really over?!?!

I just got back from a week long trip in Tunica. It was my first trip there. It sucked bad. The NL cash games sucked at levels 2/5NL, 5/10NL, and 10/25NL. Anything else might have been better, I can't say. The action was not good, and there were plenty of players that knew what they were doing.

I'll never go back there again.

UPDATE

Just returned from a five day stay in Tunica and things were better.

Enjoyed playing at the STRIKE, SHOE, and SAMS TOWN.

The $5 per hour food comps at SAMS TOWN were awesome and can be used anywhere in the place that serves food........definetly the best comp system in Tunica for poker in my opinion.

The Horseshoe and Strike were very good this time around.....made money at all three rooms and will be back soon.

No way Tunica can be what is WAS, just considering places in the midwest which have opened since the Tunica boom. Now, there is poker in Missouri, Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, Indiana, Michigan, and in other places like Louisiana, Oklahoma. There used to be people, from all those places going to Tunica.

(BTW, I was in Tunica, at the beginning, in the days of "Splash", which was the first casino in Tunica, about eighteen years ago. A lot has changed on the poker scene.)

I think the price of gas has had more to do with it, but my frame of reference is very limited. A year ago when I started coming here, there were a TON of people from metro St. Louis, for example, who hated the MO buy-in rules. They didn't consider 3-4 hours far to go for a casino weekend.

A year ago the games were always good IIRC. Now the games are good on Fridays and Saturdays.

I don't regret moving here -- it's the only way I can make poker work without quitting my present day job (I telecommute and attend meetings a few hours away). But I'm aware that if I were to make poker a full-time career, I'd want to move to somewhere with softer games or play more online.

I don't know what you guys are talking about, the 20/40 limit holdem game that runs at the Shoe all the time might be the best 20/40 game in the country, i have played the commerce and the tunica game is better, If you can't beat this game you shouldn't be playing professionally. The 2/5 nl holdem games and higher (higher ones don't run often) do have people that know a little bit what they are doing so they are not the complete joke they are in LA or Vegas but they are still very beatable. If you are going to play poker for a substantial amount of you income you need to be able to beat more than tourist donks.

The Tunica comps alone make it 2x better than poker in Florida...........

Also, FL has a $5 rake, compared to $4 in Tunica.

TAMA, IOWA has only a $3 rake on their no limit games..........but one only makes $1 per hour in comps compared to $5 per hour at SAMS TOWN TUNICA. SAMS TOWN also gives away clothing for hours played.....100 hours in a month gets you a very nice jacket. They also have free self service coffee and hot dogs around the clock, and the dogs are not bad. I almost felt guilty playing there. By the way, 5 hours gets one a $25 room in their hotel.

It's all relative. The point isn't that I can't beat a game with a lot of grinders; the point is, the games I play in are tougher than they were a year ago, and possibly tougher than in SoCal or Vegas.

Taking advantage of the 20 limit game implies having a certain bankroll (or at least a certain training budget).

Don't forget, there are plenty of people on this forum who don't play professionally, but want to play in the best games possible.

If you take about ten to fifteen regulars, who have played in the game every day for the past six or seven years, heck yes....That game HAS to a breeze to beat.

I assume you mean take out, and I'm not saying there aren't a few good players who stop by in that game but plenty of the regulars are terrible. No offense if you are one as I said there are some good ones.

Keep in mind that LHE can keep regulars in the game who play suboptimally for years and years, with enough wins to blind them to the fact that they're net loser. NLHE, not so much.

I have not had a chance to play cash games in Tunica for a while, and made the trip down yesterday. All these guys on here saying there are not any good games ,do not know what their talking about.I played at two seperate tables which were both full of fish.I normally play micro stakes online and I will tell you the micro stakes NL online is tougher than 1-3 in Tunica .The players down there make so many mistakes it is unreal.

Having just returned from there, agree 100%.

A year ago, as best I recall, it didn't much matter what time you played. $1-2/$1-3 was always good.

Now it's still great on weekends. The Horseshoe $2-5 looks amazing at times. But there are times when the games are tougher. Not tougher than online 10c-25c (they're not). Tougher than $1-2 was a year ago.
