Sick slowroll, but did I have to give up the chips?? Sick slowroll, but did I have to give up the chips??

Pretty long post, sorry, but I wanted to make sure you have all the info before giving an opinion.

Let me set the scene,

£10(+£3) Doble chance NLHE live tourney in local casino. 100+ entrants. Fairly weak/fishy players all around.

Hero (~7,500 chips)
Villain (~12,000)

Blinds 150/300

Seat 1 - Fold
Seat 2 - Fold
Seat 3 - Fold
Seat 5 - Hero - (AT) - Raise to 1,300
Seat 5 - Fold
Seat 6 - Fold
Button - Fold
SB - Fold
BB (Villain) - Call (1,300)

Board : QQJ

Villain - Check
Hero - Check

Board : Q:QJ7

Villain - Check
Hero - Check

Board : QQJ7Q

Villain - Bet (2,500)

So the villain is pretty loose, I put him on a weak Ace when he called Preflop, or rubbish like 9T or Q9. All the way I put him on a weak Ace, hoping to check it down. He's not a bad player, and I know he's realised I've been betting when I have a hand, not slowplaying much so he puts me probably on exactly what I have. I thought he was trying to get me off the pot with his river bet. I thought about it for a while, and ended up calling - spidey sense was tingling and I had to do it.

Hero - Call (2,500)

I flip over my hand and he shows A for a chop. The dealer sorts the chips, and I stick my half in my stack, pretty pleased with my call for a chop. Then just as the dealer goes to take the cards, the guy flips over his other card, and it turns out to be 8 for a flush. He had no idea he had it, he thought it was a diamond, and was very apologetic. People around the table muttered about the slowroll but several people called out for him to have the pot. I was so shellshocked I just fished the chips back out of my stack and chucked them over to him.

I thought later - what are the rules regarding such a long slowroll? It had been well over 30 seconds since the cards were shown, and the pot had been awarded as a chop, and my half of the chips were in my stack already - should I have had to give them back? Talking to friends later I'm not sure, but I have a feeling if the Tournament Director had been called I'd have had to pay up. I just wanted a second opinion - not on how I played the hand necessarily, but on what I should have done about the slowroll. Does anyone have an idea of what an official ruling should be? Those were valuable chips, and would have saved me from being knocked out when I got sucked out on a few hands later.

Thanks all in advance.

"3 seconds"? This is nothing. It's also entirely possible, and probable, that he didn't know he made a flush, because it arrived via the backdoor (on a trips board, no less). His pot.

OP, the suits changed in the post; it is a little confusing. Anyway I am assuming three hearts on board.

The dealer should have waited until both cards were shown to begin awarding the pot. Slow rollers suck, but he still won the pot. Hopefully his karmic debt will be paid while you are there to witness it.

Apologies all, that was *30* seconds not 3... mistype... also have adjusted suits to be correct... I clearly suck at this computer thing...

dealer should not have awarded pot until both players showed both cards. That being said, I don't know what to do now that the chips are physically in my stack. If it's easy to figure out how much half the pot is, I guess I ship em over to the best hand, but that's still pretty sick.

Dealer is awarded an EPIC KITN for chopping a pot before all the cards are up.

Can we assume that the Jack was a heart and queen was a diamond?

Lol like I said, I suck at this computer thing. Adjusted for suits (again) the J is a heart, last Q is the heart, first is a diamond. Sorry all, pretty crappy post.

It's the dealer's fault for chopping before seeing both cards.

I'm sorry to tell you this but you have to give back the chips you got.

Maybe he slowrolled you because you are the type of guy that thinks he is due a pot that he lost because the other guy was a meanie.

The dealer had not collected the cards, nor had his hit the muck, his pot. It sucks though, sorry you went busto.

Cheers

you have to show both cards to win, even in a chopped pot so teh dealer shouldn't even have started to push the pot without both of you tabling both cards of your hand.

it takes two to win and he had two cards that beat your two.

you give up the chips.

he gets lectured about needing to show both cards to win the pot to avoid the accidental slow roll next time.

He gets the pot. Dealer gets for not making BOTH OF YOU turn over BOTH CARDS right away. YOU get for posting this thread where you seem to think you actually had any kind of a case for not losing the pot to the best hand.

You should never count your money when you're sitting at the table. There'll be plenty of time for counting when the dealing's done.

Thanks for that... like I said in the OP, I wasn't sure of the rules and that's why I posted, I thought that was right I just wanted to check. So much for education... tell people they're idiots for asking a question and they won't ask anything again.

Cheers for all the responses guys, feel better about it now.
