Playing live 1-2NL and HU with an over pair. I raise all in. Villain turns over one card (top pair) and says "Can you beat that?" I said, "Sure". He goes into the tank for about a few minutes and finally calls. I win with an over pair.
Is this a common occurrence to show one card, then wait a few minutes, then call? I figure he was trying to get a tale off me. Do you recommend doing this in order to gain info from other players? If so why or why not?

Search is your friend, this is a common topic.

However, just because it causes so many problems for so many people who try it, I think it's a bad idea.

Some rooms have rules against it, even heads up.

Some rooms allow it.

Some people think it kills your hand (they are wrong).

IMO, showing one card can be useful but it can also bite you in the buttocks.

Consider this as well.

You show one card and he shoves all in on you, Is that a tell or a bluff?

Don't do it. Like Dealer Guy wrote, different rooms have different rules so there's a lot of confusion about this. Don't screw up a hand and create a bad situation by doing it. Kinda makes you look a bit douchey too, but that's MHO.

Strange paragraphing structure Dealer Guy, but good post!

2-3 no limit and commerce.. we're both a few hundo deep

I'm in the BB with QQ.. comes back to me and I bet the pot $25... 2nd dude after me shoves all in..

if this was online.. I would instant call

I show him my pocket queens.. and I keep looking into his eyes... I look away for a second and I go back to staring at his eyes...

he is looking at me wide eyed.. with no fear.. and I get the feeling he is shocked that I'm taking so long to lay this down.. the feeling that he cannot believe I am laying this down.. then I see a smirk.. a smirk that says.. "I can't believe this kid is laying that down to my KK"

I lay down.. He shows his kings.. everyone gives me props..

guy right of me who was talking smack when I first sat down says.. "hey.. me and you.. we're on the same side right?"

I guess if your opponent is a complete fish, it could work. Against anyone who is experienced in live play, it is going to backfire on you a lot.

Juanez, that avatar is great!!!

In honor of Al... friggin' hilarious!!

----> me <----

On the OP, gimmicky tactics like showing one card are too difficult to interpret and potentially hazardous to the person who's trying to pull a fancy one. Just don't do it.

LOL. DealerGuy uses the "one sentence per paragraph" rule, which is strange - but that's better than all those guys who use "one paragraph per post" rule!

What about in a tournament (TDA rules)? I think I read somewhere that showing a card disadvantages other players not in the hand or something like that, so showing a card (or maybe the whole hand?) will cause the hand to be declared dead.
