Self-dealt tournament - All-in player mucks Self-dealt tournament - All-in player mucks

I'm a dealer in a local casino and often there will be times where I'm not dealing but walking around the tournament room, moving BBs, breaking tables etc.

I was walking past a table last night and from what I could see it looked like the dealer had raised all-in and assumed he had taken the pot down. He mucked his hand only to hear that another player announcing he had called (which he had; his chips were definitely in).

At this point the dealer announces he had pocket nines, one of which he snap-retrieved. No one at the table looks to call floor and all seem to be allowing another player at the table to retrieve the second card from the muck. I cannot give floor rulings as a dealer. Do I go over to the table and tell the table I'll call the floor or let them be as they all seem content?

That's like the fans calling NBC during a golf tournament to report a rules violation... And I hate it. Let the players play their game.

You have self-dealt tournaments in a legal B&M room?

IMHO if you're going to have self dealt games might as well let the table decide if they need a floor ruling or not. I've played home games that did just fine with consensus rulings 90% of the time with an appeal to the host the other 10%. A lot of the time they'll come up with a ruling that's better than the rule book anyway.

Yes, self-dealt tournaments in the UK is commonplace but is slowly being phased out. Obviously the FTs are dealer dealt.

So we're saying it's not my duty to inform floor if I see something like this? I didn't call floor and just walked on by as if I saw nothing but had a think about it later on whether it was the right thing to do or not.

Why is it obvious the FTs are dealer dealt?

No, if it's a self-dealt game and the players have it figured out themselves, then let it be. The all-in player announced his hand, can retrieve both cards, and there's no more action. Good to go.

I can't comment on it because I have no experience with self-dealt games in casinos. On one hand there is some value to letting them decide if they need a floorperson. On the other hand it seems this situation puts a player who is less experienced/less assertive at a disadvantage and maybe a floor should be called. But not being familiar with that sort of environment I have no idea what people's expectations are.

Not sure why it would be obvious but minimum wage here is quite high so small tournaments i.e. £10+3 or whatever doesn't make much financial sense to have a dealer.
I played a dealer dealt 20+5 in London but it's not common.

I overuse the word obviously quite a lot, sorry. It's "obvious" because we, the company, would like to keep the FT mistake free as the paid places usually start at the FT in the nightly tournaments.

This is pretty much the reason why many UK casinos have self-dealt tournaments. Hiring dealers for only a few hours work would cost a lot whereas in the US dealers can receive as little as their tips.

I may be wrong but I believe that if money can be won a casino employee has to be dealing the game by law - hence dealer dealt final tables. (yes most casino games in the UK pay less than final 10).

Where I live it's all dealer dealt now though, the only casino that still had self dealt closed down earlier this year.

So if all the players at a table agree to something they should be allowed to change the rules? In a cash game, MAYBE (depends on what they want). But in a tournament? Nope. It's unfair to the other tables.
