Say something or remain silent? Say something or remain silent?

Playing a few hours in local room 1/3 game. Sitting in 9 seat, 8 seat villain 40ish guy that I've seen around for years. Probably small winning player.

Kid in 7 seat, obviously very new to live poker. Turned 21 a few months ago. Won $1k promo about an hour prior.

Kid is splashing around a bit, but losing as he is terrible.

On river he bluffs in a bad spot and gets called by villain. Kid looks sheepish and says your good. Villain then proceeds to play stupid game forcing kid to show his no pair before turning over what is obviously way good in this spot. Kid is extremely embarrassed and likely pissed off, his hands were shaking like crazy while he racked up and leaves.

After kid is gone do you say anything to villain?

There is always one of those jackasses. He probably also is the type to be happy that the kid left because “that’s not poker”

Kid could always muck face down. I've been in this situation before when I called light with the weakest of bluff catcher and you just want V's hand to go into the muck if he's afraid to show.

How well do you know the V? There are any number of things to say if you feel comfortable with them. But if you both aren't Regs, then it's probably best to just keep it to yourself and avoid any further issues. You never know who's having a bad day and perhaps that was a way to pass on the pain to someone else. (Perhaps jealous that a newbie won a promo?)

1) Why'd you tap the glass?
2) Is that good way to grow poker?
3) Were you trying to teach the kid a lesson?
4) Is there a whale next on the list?
5) There goes all that promo money ... GL

I would just look at him in disgust and say “seriously bro?”, but I’m passive-aggressive like that.

Turns out you are worse at poker than he is.

Isnt that even more reason? Kids hand could be a winner.

If V had the stone cold or near it, then I say it's a jerk move. If V had something like TPGK, I have no problem making sure the other hand hits the muck before I show.

My point was that him being new he might not even know he can just muck given that he's first, so you're upsetting him for no reason. Also OP heavily implied that V had a good winning hand.

Shear them forever, or skin them once.

If V has TPGK the only way he's losing the pot is if villain misread his hand, in which case the last thing you want to do is force him to table. It's around high card king that waiting for him to muck in case he has ace high becomes valid.

I'm sure I say something that I think it witty, unoffensive and to the point. It probably comes across awkwardly, and I then worry if I tapped the glass... but yeah, I'm sure I make a comment more often than not.

Villain had way the best hand. Was impossible for him to even wonder for a second.

Interesting reading the various opinions.

I choose not to remain silent. Waited until after the kid was gone so he couldn't overhear, then turned to villain and said "that was a dick move, you know better than that".

Villain reacted not too badly. Tried to justify by saying the kid was forcing people to fold a lot and he wanted to see what kind of hands he was playing. I said that was BS, the information he gained by doing it didn't help at all, and is far out weighed by the damage he'd done.

He then asked if kid was really upset, I told him yes so much so that kid's hands were shaking while he racked up. Reg between villain and kid confirmed.

I summed up that it is better for so many reasons to just not be a dick.

Villain was more openly engaged in the conversation than I'd hoped for. He was defensive, but don't think he was too upset with me as later on in the session he engaged me in some friendly smalltalk.

So perhaps a rare positive outcome story Say something or remain silent?

Well handled. Although I doubt the villain is a small winner given how bad his people reading skills are.
