San Fransisco, poker, and public transit San Fransisco, poker, and public transit

I will be in San Fransisco for work from October 1st to October 3rd. I will be at a conference for most of the time, but I am hoping to play some poker while I am in town.

I'd love to meet some fellow 2plus2ers, so if you're planning to play during those days, shoot me a PM and maybe we can meet up.

Since I won't have a car, I am wondering if there is a casino that is accessible by public transit. I searched previous threads and couldn't find anything. I'll be staying at the Hotel Monaco, which is located downtown.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Lucky Chances.

511.org will get you around the Bay Area on public transit.

Lucky Chances has a shuttle that can pick you up at the Colma BART station, you can take a cab, or even walk (about 1 mile). There is a BART station about 4 blocks from your hotel, 2 blocks south (downhill) from Union Square.

Thanks! Any reason to play anywhere else?

The shuttle runs every half hour on the hour and on the 30. The last shuttle is at midnight, and the last BART train at 12:15ish, so you either turn into a pumpkin then or superhero it until morning when both start running again at 6am.

What games are you looking to play?

Your other option is to take BART across the bay to Oakland, and get off at 19th Ave. Take a five minute cab ride to The Oaks card room in Emeryville.

...or take the free Emery-Go-Round during the daytime. Oaks has a free shuttle back to BART. But be warned that no matter where you go, BART stops running at midnight.

Thanks. This is going to make playing rather tough, as I won't be done with work stuff until late in the evening. I am getting to SF on Thursday afternoon, so maybe I can squeeze in a few hours then.

I play LHE, probably 6/12 or 9/18. If anyone has suggestions where to find better limit games in SF, I am all ears.

I'd also say Lucky Chances if you want 6/12 limit. An FYI if you want to play NL, they only spread 1-1-2 (4 to limp) and 2-3-5 (10 to limp) spread limit with $200 max bets. The only true NL is 10-10-20 spread. 1-1-2 uses mostly $1 chips for some strange reason.

when i was in SF for a week I just took the bart to colma and the shuttle runs every half hour. very easy. hope this helps.

snoop, Lucky chances has real no limit now, starting at $5 bb. Its a time charge, and they still run the 1-1-2 spread limit with a drop.

Also easily BART accessible is Artichoke Joes, about a 1mi walk fro the San Bruno station. But LCs should be fine for 6/12 and 9/18.

It's not a time charge, the time charge is only for the 10 10 20 I believe. Both the 3-5 and the 5-10 rake. 4 + 2 jackpot I believe.

A cab ride after midnight (e.g., without significant traffic) from LC back to downtown SF will run about $35.

are either the San Pablo or whatever the place in Walnut Creek easily accessible via BART?

I think they're both probably bad ideas since bart doesn't go late enough and leaving at 12 sucks, but I've heard good things about both places...

Not really, no. San Pablo is far away. Pacheco is probably an easy cab ride, tho'.

San Pablo is just up 80 in ... San Pablo. Not a lot of miles from the Bay Bridge. Seems closer to SF than Pacheco. NL is going to be basically unplayable for OP. They have only 1 or 2 tables and even somewhat late at night it's probably a couple hour wait. The limit is easier to get into but still somewhat of a wait. The 'hood is just that - the hood. A taxi will likely cost you as much as you'd hope to win.

For what you're looking for, I'd say Lucky Chances is your best bet, especially with their shuttle service. Next best option would be Oaks, but getting there from BART might be a hassle.

The Emery-Go-Round is a free shuttle that picks up at BART and goes around Emeryville. Oaks is in Emeryville.

From/to Chinatown it seems to be $33 on the meter going and $36 on the meter coming back. Didn't matter to me - the cabbie got $40 from me either way.

Very interesting 6/12 LHE game. But...probably my worst 2-night run lifetime. It was just brutal. The second half of the second night was even more brutal to the maniac on my left. He made the key error of coloring up at the peak ... and then fed one white chip after another back into the slot machine. Alas, very little of it came my way.

An OK room, but if I'd had a car I would have seriously considered Bay101, where the deck was much friendlier a few days earlier (and is a room that I like a lot better - perhaps only because I know it better, perhaps because the 6/12 game there might be a bit softer, it's hard to say). It's too far, but it's just barely doable.
