Re: BBJ Eligibility Re: BBJ Eligibility

I work at a Sacramento-area cardroom where a BBJ was hit recently. Upon further review, I found that 2 players in the short-handed game were shilling, aka playing house money. Should these players be eligible for their respective shares or does shilling preclude them from any potential jackpots? I haven't been able to find any rules on this or other similar situations. Thanks for your help.

I know of no casino that pays for a player shilling, if a casino allows a employee to play when they are on shift they are considered shilling, the only rule most casinos give them is no check raising, other then that they use there own money, win or lose. If the casino gets busy and a list starts then they must leave the game and return to work.
So to answer your question, yes they paid the bad beat rake just like the rest of the table.

Shilling is quite common in this area, since floors and those deemed "good enough" are needed to start/save games so often. I just think it's pretty questionable for the house to be aiding a jackpot by backing players involved.

Do they get to keep what they win while playing? If yes, then what is the difference in their keeping their winnings then and in a BBJ?

Do they owe the casino money back if they lose? Hard to believe that they would.

If there is not a rule against these players participating in BBJ's, why worry about it this time?

If you feel that shills should not get a share, seek to have the rules changed but I do not see how you can enfore an ex post facto rule change now.

Also, changing that rule may just make it harder to find shills.

At CP, employees aren't allowed to win bonus jackpots. For example, when it was guaranteed 100K bonus in the wee hours a dealer hit the big end. The small end and the table shares payout was based on 100K, but the dealers big end was based only on the regular jackpot amount at the time (40k?) so he got less than the small end.
