In case you are not Australian, Jo Hachem has released a new 8 part reality TV show, where 11 people play to be the 'Poker Star'. Prize is $100K, plus a trip to Monte Carlo and Vegas with entry to 4 tourney's and free mentoring from Jo. Format appears to be some sort of lame challenge (first week was about reading people), then a sit n go - first of whom is eliminated goes to an elimination room, where Jo decides between them and two others that he and Lee Nelson decide are the weakest two players. Then Jo eliminates one based on what he has seen.

OK, I have seen the first episode... hmmm. I would like to know how they cast these guys / girls. Supposedly some won their way in via Pokerstars and some through casting calls... Interesting mix of people with little idea, to some decent players. But also it seemed way too 'casted'... like a Survivor cast. Hotty chick, angsty angry chick, Smart ass brainiac, funny fat dude, old dude, player dude, under the radar dude, soccer mum, pro golfer wife etc .... Like I reallly don't think they got the majority of those people from the Pstars online qualifiers..

But you have to ask Jo, what is with the ending credits narration... "I won the 2005 main event because I could read everybody and nobody could read me..."... I mean really, do you really think that??? I didn't think self delusion was a good poker player quality... maybe I am wrong.
