The words "quality play" and "commerce" pretty much don't belong in the same sentence.


The structure is weird, and the players are aggressive, but essentially you just need to have a good hand pf and push it hard, getting it all-in pf or on the flop. Once you double/triple up you can play some poker against the bigger stacks.

I sat at 3/5 and found the quality of play to be absolutely terrible. I mean...terrible. They make the foxwoods players look like pros.

How have you done at these tables?

I haven't played extensively at commerce, but I do alright!

Which means you play 59suited and river your flush against pocket queens and tens all in preflop huh?

im taking a trip to the commerce sometime in the winter, should i be aware of anything suspect in the casino/hotel during my stay? i dont want to leave with a sour taste in my mouth

How are the LHE games at Commerce?

I've only played in the 3-6 and 4-8 LHE games at the Commerce, but for the most part they're pretty donktastic; you get a lot of loose aggressive players that will often ride top pair, low kicker way, way too far. Tables often go crazy and will inexplicably cap preflop seven or eight ways without any impressive hands. You'll get sucked out on by running flushes and straights, but as always, you want those people at your table chasing their hands. Seeing cards like 74 raised in middle position will not be uncommon.

Some other things to watch out for:

1) On more than a few occasions I've been at a table with three older Korean guys that want nothing better than to raise the bejezus out of each other. I don't know what it is with them, but they seem to turn the game into their personal testosterone shoving ground.

2) Despite everything I've just said, there are also many classic, old man nit players around.

3) People will get amazingly hostile with each other. I've seen a fist fight break out once, and a few more were close to happening. Also, the way some of the players treat the dealers is atrocious.

I have played at Commerce since 1993 and same place same thing any two cards will do and the worst starting hands win.
Ax is monsters in there limit games.

The nl $40.00 is chase to the river like a lower limit game however the $100.00 seems to have the grinders unless like the previous poster said a lot of Korean men are at the table then its a pushing match.

The 200 nl is a mix of pros and then you have the weekend / actors / celebs trying what they saw on TV.

What's the slogan again? LA's friendliest?

well... it's probably a question of semantics - if by pros you mean good, winning players, then not likely. But if by pros you mean guys with no other job that live in their cars that are either broke or up $5k sure!

If you enjoy bashing your head against a wall then play the 100NL or lower at Commerce. The 200NL through 500-1500NL spread game (best game for your money at the moment) are all bery bery soft. If you are unlucky you will find yourself at a table where someone thinks past what cards they're playing. Enjoy.
