Curious if anyone smarter than I am knows the laws regarding a card room casino (not tribal) in California hosting a private game with set lineups / excluding certain players? Is this legal? Searched around the CGCC website but couldn’t find anything, because government, of course.

The Bike used to have a billboard advertising that you could move your homegame there, so I suspect that it's legal. IANAL and am just remembering a stupid billboard I saw in LA around 2007.

Commerce currently has a way to set up home games but I’m not sure what the process is behind that or if these home games can restrict people from coming in.

I think it was a Commerce billboard and boy was it ever stupid. Was it a dopey visual with poker players getting arrested with the message being home games are illegal, play with us?

More like, "Your unraked home game is illegal, come pay rake to us!"

Yeah, I think that was the one. Had a guy at the table who looked vaguely like Cheech Marin with a piece of pizza, looking shocked at the cops.

IIRC, though, it said something more like "let us host your game," rather than simply "play with us."

That’s right. Implied message was that cops would raid your house and bust your penny ante kitchen table game. Not a particularly convincing marketing message.

Yeah, the only reason I remember it at all was that it was so laughable. The food was messy too, adding the implication that a home game would trash your house.
