Playing Against Dealers Playing Against Dealers

01-27-2015 , 12:14 PM
Lately, I've been seeing a lot of dealers playing at my tables. I'm not sure how to approach it. I play my best poker against them at the table and I see them as my competition. Then, a few days later, they're not an opponent. They're dealing to me.

I don't ever want to tip these dealers. They're my competition. I don't want to be giving them funds to play. Tips are voluntary. I have a hard time voluntarily giving my money to my competition.

I'm interested in hearing other players experiences and views on playing against dealers who are sometimes players.

If the waiter from your favorite restaurant starts playing at your table will you not tip him next time you eat there?

This belongs in the tipping thread....

That's absurd.

Would you stop tipping the waiter at your favorite restaurant if he started to play poker in your games?

How do you know that none of the regulars in your games is the co-owner of a grocery store that you frequent? By shopping there, you might give your money to your competition!

most dealers are terrible poker players.

dealers in vegas are allowed to play where they deal.

if i tip a dealer i don't care what he does with the money,he earned it.

I won't play against dealers in their own room. I've seen too much **** to feel comfortable with it anymore. My solution? Find another table or another room. Unless the dealer is a really bad player or really hot, in which case I stay.

Allowing dealers to play in their own room is allowed most places in Nevada and a few other places - it depends on the state and house rules. Actually in Nevada you can play while on the clock. Sometimes if a full time dealer needs more hours for the week they are allowed to stay and play for that extra time.

I prefer a room where dealers are not allowed to play there as well. I would be fine to tip them and I would take the opposite opinion on the tipping though. I would rather tip someone that has a chance of giving it back to me another time at the poker table than someone whom you cannot win it back from. Most dealers are terrible to mediocre players, otherwise they would be playing full time. Most are just working as dealers to fund their gambling addiction, if they also play table games or cards that is.
