Nice, France Casino Ruhl Help! 1/2 transition to 5/5 NLHE? Nice, France Casino Ruhl Help! 1/2 transition to 5/5 NLHE?

Hey guys just landed in Nice today, looking to playing nlhe tonight at Casino Ruhl. My question is: is it possible to buy chips at the cage with a credit card? or is it cash only? i don't feel very comfortable bringing a lot of cash because I will be by myself and probably drinking throughout the night.

Also from what I read on another thread, the game that runs there is a 5/5 game with a minimum buyin of 250. i normally play at the 1/2 level but buyin with 200 big blinds(200usd), so i guess buying in for the minimum of 250 euros isnt unbearable. How should I adjust my gameplay since the blinds are much higher? (i've played 2/5 before but never 2/2 or 5/5) anything I should look out for?

Any tips are appreciated guys! Also if anyone happens to be out and wants to meet up let me know I'll buy you a drink or two

thanks for help

5/5 doesn't play much different than 2/5.

Not been to that casino but it's a wealthy area so would imagine they'll be some recreational players with money in the game.

Some casinos in Europe accept credit cards at the cage, some don't. No harm in going and asking.

Good luck. Let us know how you get on.

sup tonysoprano!

So I went to the Casino last night (thursday) around 9pm and there was a tournament going on 100+20 buyin. im going to be turning 21 in feb so this was my first live tournament. there was approximately 50 players signed up which is decent for a small casino like casino ruhl and the prize pot was about ~5200 euros (which it said on the screen). i was able to buy in with my credit card so that was pretty convenient. anyways i came in 2/3rd place because when there was 5 people left(mind you 5 places get paid) on the final table everyone wanted to make a deal and was speaking in french(which i do not understand) until the dealer basically just said to me, "agree"? and i just smiled and nodded... i walked away with 1k euros, first place got 1.6!!!!! there was also a 5/5 game running which looked pretty juicy but unfortunately there was only one table and a waiting list. i put myself on the waiting list (i was third on the list) and after 30 minutes of playing blackjack and losing 100 euros, i left because it didn't look like anyone was leaving the cash game table.

ill definitely be going tonight and playing in the cash game though!

anyways thanks for the reply, really appreciate it buddy! merry xmas

but yea everyone was extremely friendly. i met this one german dude going to school in nice who told me he played a lot online and spoke very good english. one of the dealers was also this super hot french girl with nice tits, i tried talking to her the entire time but she kept responding in two words of english then finished the sentence with french so i couldnt really understand her. i wouldve given my left nut and half my prize money to take her home though. real talk haha

I do recommend checking the rake % and max rake in cash games. While I have not played at nice, rake cap is higher in europe and can be very high in France.

Rake is 4%, no cap !
Cage should take credit cards, if not, there are some ATM's inside the casino (left to the entrance).
Cash game opens quite late, usually 5/5 min buy-in is 250 euros.
Level is similar to online NL5.

You really need to learn at least a small amount of French, OP. You may be able to get by for the most part on just physical actions, but you're going to be at a serious disadvantage if any issues arise that require explaining something to the floor.

You are also going to have a much harder time picking up hot dealers who don't speak English.

You should buy in for more because of how high the rake is. Most of the players are so bad that you will have a lot more equity if you find good spots to double up. I played a lot in Cannes and the rake was unreal but the players were terrible and so wealthy.

I'd stay away from table games there if you can help it though!

Also if you have any questions about how to say things or questions about the french style I lived and played in france for a year.

Good luck!

The game plays quite soft, but as others mentioned, it has 4% uncapped rake. They also take rake preflop as well, which I think makes the game nearly unbeatable. It is also very slow moving because each hand the rake is calculated on a little computer on the table down to 0.50 euros.

It's a decent game if you're just looking to play and have fun, but it would be tough to be very profitable.

You'd probably have a higher risk by drinking all night while gambling off of a CC than you would by bringing cash.

Congrats on your tourney cash!
