He does come off classless in these episodes but we all have our moments no ones perfect.

Am I the only one who thinks that getting up in the middle of a hand and hugging a guy who has a big decision to make is WAY worse than looking at someone's cards when a) you're not in the hand and b) the guy deliberately left his cards unprotected for a stupid, egotistical reason?

I was quite offended when I saw viffer look at Laak's hand. And his stated justification, that Laak wasn't protecting it, was weak. Lots of people get up from poker tables and they expect that other players won't use that opportunity to look at their cards.

That said, as I have thought about it more, I do see viffer's side of things. Essentially, this was an out of control game. Laak was doing all sorts of silly crap, some of which was also unethical (hugging Eli during a tank). This was a television show, and because of that there was a lot of flexibility and fluidity with respect to the rules. And that's deliberate-- it needs to be entertaining television.

Accordingly, i'd say all these players are grown-ups who know that when they play in these games, they take a risk that some poker rules will be violated to their detriment. It doesn't justify it, but it isn't as big a deal as it would be if someone violated the same rule in your local 5-5 NL game at a casino.

So while I would say viffer did something he shouldn't have done, and I would hope that if he had it to do over again he wouldn't do it (perhaps because he would be feeling better), I don't think it is deserving of intense condemnation either, and I don't think it makes him a douche. In this context, in this game, the rules were relaxed somewhat in the name of entertainment.

+1...and balanced against Viffer's soul crushing bluff of loose cannon "Troy" on PSTBG and the "9 ball corner pocket" hand vs PH, he is still deserving of tons of respect....JMO

I still like Viff, and who knows how much stuff was going on prior to editing the show. Laak was pretty unbearable at times so I'd imagine it would be quite a bit worse seeing the unedited version

if he didnt own fulltilt maybe he would have more time to play poker and stay good rather than running a billion dollar company.

i mean i know howard is boring to watch but he didnt get to where he was by being stupid or bad at poker

this was just about the most I've lolled while watching a poker show (especially considering AF and BA's reaction, I thought that was the best).

But taking a step back he did put a pretty sick beat on PH in a pretty big pot and then needle him before the cards even ran out, pretty classless imo.

Phil Laak is really lost in the world. Evidently he knows nothing about BBQ. Tri-tip use to be called "butt steak" from where it originated on the bovine. We ought to give Laak the handle of "tri-tip" because he is such a butt.

I'd love it. He was fun, positive energy, and he was drunk and playing erratically.
