Assuming there were 10 guys, each month we play a home tournament with a $50 buy-in. The winner get's to buy-in to a $500 event and represent the entire group in the event. Let's say the winning player get's 30% of any money collected...with the remaining being split evenly among the other players.

This enables someone to play in a larger event....have a cheering section....and it only costs him $50.
The other guys, even though they lost, have a rooting interest in how "their horse" finishes.
We can look ahead at what event we would be playing for...and adjust the buy-in. Even a $1000 tournament would require a $100 tourney.

Thoughts?
i think it s a good idea.....u can tailor it however you want with the buy in of the tourney....if we do a 50 buy in with total prize pool of $500 we can send 3 people to the venetian daily noon tourney.

or reward 1-2 seats to a lower buy in and pay out 3rd place money back or w/e.

sounds good..i d be interested.

I'd be interested too. We could always do this at a casino too - we'd just have to ask during a dead time.

so this is like playing in a satellite, but in addition to not getting any cash if you win, you also don't even get the equity value of the tournament seat?

also on the whole meeting people thing, this is one of the main reasons i plan on renting a room from craiglist or something when i move out there, living with other people you're bound to at least become a casual acquaintance of a few people

That reminds me...I have a room for rent. Craigslist is my next stop. But if anyone here needs a room, feel free to send me a message.

Well, we're pretty much all packed up and ready to go. Picking up the U-Haul early tomorrow morning and once we got it filled up we're hitting the road. Should be arriving in Vegas sometime late Sunday night. Decided to book a room at South Point Hotel & Casino while we're looking at houses, haven't stayed there before but it looks nice. It's close location to I-15 and 215 should make traveling around town a little easier. Got a good deal online for about $65/night.

Scheduled to look at 6-7 houses on Monday, and then a few more on Tuesday. Hopefully we'll find something that we like. Wish us luck.

GL bro. Definitely have to have a drink when I get up there in April.

Where did you look to find these houses? Online? Like I told you, we have our eyes on a few, but all from online. Good luck and let us know what you decide on!

GL guys. Hope you find something nice! Welcome to town! Count me in for that drink too.

Make sure you ask to put the UHaul somewhere safe in the hotel. They might even have a gated entrance you can leave it in if you ask around. I know when I first got here with mine I had to do that for a night and it was no big deal.

Definitely. It's like some sort of Vegas tradition to welcome newcomers by emptying out their U-Hauls overnight.

Yep, welcome to Vegas. Thanks for making it easy on me by letting me know you're staying at the South Point.

Sweet, hopefully the house search will go smoothly.

PM me if you wanna go skiing this weekend, though, you are probably thinking about playing cards. Maybe a day trip on Saturday to Brian Head is in order?

Alright, time for a quick update. We found an awesome 2bd+den/2 bathroom condo, with a big living room, tile floor, gas fireplace, nice balcony w/ partial view of the strip, all-in-all about 1700 sq. ft., and 2-car garage as well.

Right off Towncenter, about 5 min from Red Rock in a fairly new gated community.

IMO we got very lucky w/ finding the place we did. Monday morning we first met up w/ a real estate lady that turned out to be a disaster. She was supposed to show us 5 properties, but one had rented out, one she never figured out who managed it, one we couldn't view because the tenant was sick, and one we went to but she couldn't find the key to it so we never got inside lol. So the only placed she showed us was some old, kind of rundown house in GV somewhere. After we were done w/ her I decided to call a few places myself, got in touch with this guy who later that day showed us the place we decided to settle on. $1250/month on a 1-yr lease, would've been $1350, but we decided to buy our own appliances (fridge, washer+drier).

I'll probably get around to posting some pics eventually once we got it all furnished.

I'm going to hit up the Venetian 8 PM bounty tourney tonight, I'll be wearing a brown striped sweater and an orange Salomon ski jacket, throw out a sup bro if you see me.

Welcome...so you settled on Summerlin. After all the posts and advice, kinda curious as to what made you choose Summerlin over GV? Was it the area...or fell into a good deal with the house?
(I live near Summerlin hospital, 5 minutes from RR!)

We haven't looked to hard yet, but I'm 'hoping' we decide in the GV area. Curious, for those that live both in GV area and Summerlin...

What higher-end grocery stores do you guys have there? This is actually a big deal to me as I fancy myself as quite a cook and possibly will be looking to start my own restaurant for the locals down the road...just curious. Thanks!

Pretty much just fell into a good deal w/ the place we found. As soon as we walked in the door, we both were like "ok this is it, no need to look at anything else".

I was slightly concerned about the proximity to the strip, but taking 215 it's a 15 min drive doing about the speed limit the entire way. Taking one of the surface streets is shorter distance wise but seems to be a longer drive due to lights and traffic.

I guess Food-4-Less and 7-11 are not high-end? Walmart, K-Mart, Albertsons, Vons, and Smiths are not high-end, either, probably. That leaves Trader Joes, which I don't particularly think of as high end, but more eclectic (in the 10000ish block of Eastern, or there's one on Sunset/GVPkwy). And Wild Oats on Stephanie/Sunset and Whole Foods by GV Ranch. Plus random little ethnic markets here and there.

But I'm no gourmet. Slap a pork chop or chicken breast on the grill for 10 minutes and I'm happy.

There is a Whole Foods, or Whole Paycheck as I like to call it, in The District @ GVR (across the street from the main part). Much better quality than Albertsons, Smiths, TJs, etc.

Yup there's a Whole Foods right up the street here on Charleston W. Albertsons a block east or so from Red Rock.

As for the GF, NH sir, NH...
