I was playing at The Hard Rock in Tampa when I guy called flop of A/10/Q rainbow with 9h/5s and then went runner-runner for 2 pair to beat a guy's TPTK. The guy who lost looked at the guy who won and said" How could you call that flop?" and the guy who won responded by saying "I was on a pair draw". And he was serious in his response.

I had another the other nite:

1/2 NL , we have a limp, limp, raise to $10, call , I'm on the button with A5h. An easy call, we're all pretty deep, I know the 2 limpers are calling stations who will call, big implied odds. Sure enough, both limpers, plus the BB call, we're 5 to the flop with $50 or so in the pot.

Flop is 2 of my suit, checked to raiser who bets $15 into the $50 pot. Easy call, I think about raising, but I've been pretty aggressive with draws, not sure I'll get a free card anyway, so I just call getting almost 4 to 1 drawing to nut flush. We pick up one other caller, turn brick, now he bets $20 into $95 pot. I'm getting like 5 to 1 at this point, so I just call, put the Bb on flush draw as well and raiser must have a big hand? Call. River is a glorious heart, giving me nuts, villan sighs and checks. I bet $50 for value, blind RAISERS all in for $125 or so, villian CALLS, then I raise him his last $100 or so, and he angrily calls.

Here's the funny part: I show him the nuts (He flopped trip Qs. other guy, sure enough, said he had worse flush) and he angrily says "How can you call. No way you had caught odds on that!" I thought for sure I had misheard and said "you mean pot odds? Sure I did." and he says "No, caught odds. Like odds to catch. Odds that you caught." I guess it makes a certain kind of twisted logic, but I had to excuse myself to giggle.

my friend and I are donking around some 3/6 limit. my buddy has 22 and flop comes 922, everyone checks. Turn 9, everyone checks. River 9. Obviously a TREMENDOUS board for the bad beat jackpot. He bets out, another guy calls, some other guy raises. he just calls, other guy folds. The raiser unfortunatley has like AQ or some shiz. My friend goes 'wow guess i should have reraised, wasn't even thinking, was just thinking we had jackpot' and the other guys and dealer say he would have been crazy to raise. Put me on instamegatilt. Why? B/c the guy is gonna fold quad nines to the raise???? If anything, it would be bad for a 9 to raise, bc maybe a nit has four twos and folds b/c they don't know it's a jackpot. or if you had KK on AAAKK, the guys kicker isn't gonna play, so u don't get BBJ if he has you beat. But here, you can NEVER lose money by raising. AROIUEPOJROI

I thought this might be a fun thread for the live game players.

I was playing yesterday. A guy comes to our table wearing a skull-cap and sunglasses. He sits down, tells the dealer he will wait until his blind and then demonstratively starts closely watching all of us. When it gets to his blind, he puts his I-Pod earphones in; I swear he was emulating something he saw on T.V. poker.

Anyhow, this guy is bending the ear of the player to his left about strategy when he picks up A A. He bets $10 and gets (5) callers. Pot is $65. Flop comes K 3 9. Aces bets $15 and gets (3) callers. Pot is $110. Turn is 2 Aces bets $20 and gets (2) callers. Pot is $150. River brings 9 AA bets $100 (1) player re-raises all in for $80 more and AA calls and loses to a spade flush.

He then begins to tell the table how ludacris it was for the player to call on the two streets while on a flush draw. He says,

"Do you realize you have only (9) outs and need to have at least 9-1 to be calling in that situation. You know they have books on poker odds and strategy... you should pick one up and quit relying on luck!!"

I almost fell off my seat laughing....
Thats funny. Your right this guy may watch to many movies and may suffer from illiteracy himself. Got luv em though.

Flop: QJ3

Stack sizes are an auto-shove, which I do, and he SNAP-calls, and when he sees my hand he happily and vigorously slaps his cards on the table.

His hand: 92

The turn bricks, and the 2 hits on the river, and he screams so the whole bar can hear, "YEAH BABY, YOU GOTTA PLAY THE PLAYER!!!!"

While the opining party here obviously said it wrong, I don't think the logic was all that absurd. I also feel much worse about winning $3 with AA than I do about losing $30 or $40.

In fact, I usually congratulate myself on good table selection when half the table starts nodding in agreement with the guy in Late-MP who opens to $30 with a $5 pot in a $1/$2 game because "I'd rather win $5 than Lose $100 with my AA."

Now, to keep it more relevant. This was last night:

UTG just bet $8 on the flop (Board: 6d7sJd) into a four way pot($28). MP1 calls; MP3 Raises to $38; Button Folds; UTG hesitates and calls; MP1 re-raises to $125; MP3 thinks and mucks; UTG tanks for a minute or two and calls with $22 behind.

UTG then bets his last $22 in the dark; MP1 snap calls and turns over 6c7c. UTG doesn't show. Turn is Ks; River is 9h. UTG looks for a second and rolls over Qc10c for the nuts and takes down the pot.

Now the conversation.

Me" (immediately after UTG with about $95) "Wow, nice hand dude. Glad you could double up there." *very sincere sounding*

UTG: "Yeah, thanks. I like to play hands like that when I have position on my opponents."

Me: "...... You mean under the gun??"

UTG: "Right. I love playing those suited connectors when I have position. You get to see the flop and then you get the first chance to bet at it. That way if they don't have anything they just fold. Then if they call, you know you have a draw."

Me: ". . . . Huh. I guess you have a point; I've just never thought about it that way."

UTG: "Yeah, that's the thing about poker, you always have to think about position. Whether you are "Playing the Player" or just playing your hand, position is the most important thing."

Me: ". . . . . . Thanks, I'll have to keep that in mind. Hey, would you mind posting my blind? I have to go get some more chips. Did you want another Rum & Coke while I'm up?"

Yes, I've heard that at least a couple of times. I have also had someone -- a non-poker player -- ask me if I'm good because I count cards. I explained that card counting doesn't really happen in poker, and he disagreed.

Well, the ability to remember the folded cards from the boards of others is a very strong advantage in stud. And, there's still the counting of outs in holdem, so I think there is some card counting, just not the way blackjack players do it.

Correct. In this specific conversation, the person in question was referring to card counting as in blackjack, and how it might carry over.

This doesn't seem so crazy does it? If by "win $3" you're implying you're playing 1-2, then $35 seems like a huge raise that is more than likely to just fold everyone out. Make it $10-$15 and play some poker!

What is the next move with AA when you raise $10-$15 and you have six callers and flop comes rag, rag, rag and you get check/raised after the flop? Some people, myself included sometimes, just can't get away from an over pair. Just remember, with AA, you usually either win a small pot or lose a big pot.

My point: over raising with AA preflop is not too absurd in a game where you know a standard raise WILL be called by multiple players.

10 handed 100/200 krone limit no cap HU

Really nice but has to play every hand till the river Irish guy limps Ep, I isolate A8 hearts from the CO. Flop comes down 888, ch bet call. Turn Ts, ch bet, he thinks and calls, river 9s, he donks, I raise, he thinks and calls. We both have around 10k behind...

He says flush, I say quads and table, he's like nh bud, goes to muck but has to show off his flush so he shows it to the guy next to him who's eyes go wide at Js7s and tells him to flip his cards... Oh really??? I've never had a straight flush before. Best beat I've ever had.

I was playing in a home tourney and got heads up. The blinds were rather large with ~20 bbs in play between the two of us. His strategy (which he announced to me right before we started playing HU) was to limp blind out of the sb in order to get position and then only call an all-in when he got a pocket pair, because even pocket 2's "are a pretty big favorite" over most hands.

Not at a live table, but I thought this was funny:
(.5/1 HORSE on FT, where they shuffle the hole cards in stud games)

Hero: u have 2 pair on 4th?
Villain: no before
Hero: lol
Hero: that was a joke right?
Villain: no 64 in hole
Hero: not easy to make 2 pair before 4th street
Villain: that's why i hung in there

I was in a small tournament maybe 60 players. The third hand a young guy call preflop, flop, turn and river. When he turned his hand over it was clear that he could only beat a bluff. He had lost 90% of his chips but he calmly announced that he had got what he wanted.
Of course I asked him what that was. "Information." I think my jaw dropped.

" It will come in handy later he added."

This is not really absurd but kind of amusing. Sitting in a 6 man single table tourney and during the color up of chips three of the players start complaining about online poker. They are all convinced that it is rigged and that there is action software programmed to make sure that flops hit a piece of multiple players and that and to help bad players win pots from good ones.

After the color up the first hand had 3 all ins with a top pair, bottom two, and OESD.

In our home game the other night an old guy talked himself into calling a 200bb allin on the flop with Ace high, no touch, no draw. His exact words were "I know you dont have a set, I have AQ, I call." Pretty standard imo.
