I remember years ago not all tournaments were rebuys, not all tournaments were late registration. Tournaments that started at 6pm started late registration so people that were running late still had a chance to play. Now everything is different, all tournamanets are rebuys with 2 hours of late registration. What happened? Can't we have both? All tournaments with 2+ hours of registering is getting ridiculous.

Where I play registration is open until end of the first level and reentry is possible until the end of the first break.

Sure you can halve tournaments without late registration. But understand that late registration is not so that people who were running late had a chance to play. Its so that they get more players which is what attracts more players. if you close registration at the start of the tournament and you get a small field ... you are stuck with a small field. then people don't like you rtournament because it doesn;t get enough players. By keeping registration open for 2 hours you open your net to get more players. People see bigger fields and they are happy.,

You just have to realize that the tradeoff for most casinos daily tournaments eliminating late registration will be smaller fields.

I suppose poker rooms like money too.

Larger prize pools = happier winners

Both late reg and re-entry opportunities allow for players to 'invest' as much as they would like into a tournament. Some players also want to see what the field looks like before they enter .. or if there is an 'overlay' with a minimum prize pool.

Tournament officials have listened to the players on this one for sure. I played in a $240 tournament where they had 34 re-entries (through level 4) on top of 82 'reg' BIs. That's a 41% increase in the prize pool and I'm not sure how many of the 82 were 'late' regs. Think about all those 'extra' chips out there for the nits when you have almost half the field blowing their stack!! GL

Why is it ridiculous? Why do you care? Do you feel it is somehow unfair?

It is not unfair -- rules are same for everyone. But it changes the game. Advantage to the guys with the bigger bankrolls. And the early levels become shovefests more easily.

If the changes in the game don't suit you, it's your option to not play.

What I would like to see where I play is people being able to pull their chips off the table and reenter any time up to the normal cutoff for reentry.

Interesting comment, but why would you allow players to jump around if they don't like their table .. or are trying to protect a stack? That certainly can be done in a cash game but would be radical thinking in a tournament.

Table draws are part of the luck in tournaments ... and why would you allow someone to skip their blinds/antes once they've committed to the tournament?

I don't really like that wait list or re-entries can start with a full stack, but I know that is poor thinking as well.

I do wish there was a better way to control the speed of play before 'critical' moments in the tournament, but that's also part of the table draw. While following Dnegs in the WSOP final 30 (or so) this year I saw that his table played almost 3 extra orbits compared to the other tables. Is that fair to the short stacks? GL

You misunderstand what I meant. What I meant is I want people to be able to forfeit their current stack and reenter if they choose. Only sane people with small stacks compared to the starting stack would choose this option.

Just start going all in every hand. You'll either "forfeit" your stack or end up with a playable amount.

I don't think they should eliminate late reg or rebuys. Just make freezouts an option as well

They are an option. Any room can run them.

When you ask why they don;t run them ... the answer is because it generally makes more business sense to allow late registration.

If they just want to withdraw their stack and re-enter, there's no downside to just going all-in at every opportunity. The end result will probably be the same, but there's a small chance they luck their way to a stack that's bigger than the starting stack. If you find yourself with a miniscule stack and less than a minute to re-enter, it just wasn't your tournament.

No downside other than spending more money you mean.

My fav here is ending up getting called by someone that doesn't have me quite covered and I end up with like three bigs after registration end and the average is 50.

How would they be spending more money? Either they withdraw their chips and pay to re-enter, or they just keep going all-in until they either bust, or are back to a workable stack. The second option has the potential to save them money.
