The implied call The implied call

Suppose we are in position, heads up, and some guy bets into us all in on the river. We have the nuts. Can we "call" by simply flipping over our hand? Or can we say something like, "I've got the nuts" and then flip over our hand? Just wondering, because I've seen a few pros do this on television, and I was wondering if it is typically allowed in card rooms.

Just say those mystical obscure Proto-Aramiac words, "I call"

"In a well run cardroom" flipping your cards over before you actually call won't kill your hand. And we all know, all cardrooms are well run.

Good rule to follow:
If you saw it on T.V., that is where it belongs.

Correct. There's also the very slim possibility that someone doesn't realize what they have and are simply folding face-up. Best to just eliminate that interpretation.

We CAN call like that.

We also CAN be considered to have folded or killed our hand.

Take an extra second, say "I call", and make sure you get all the chips you are owed...

Link or reference to hands you saw, chances are the player said call and wasn't picked up by the mic or was drowned out by the crowd or commentators. My advice is to stop living on the razor edge of what's tolerated and just say call or drop some chips over the line. It's not very often you get to snap call with the nuts on the river in this game so don't do anything that would screw it up.

Unless you don't speak english or have a speech impediment, it takes literally a split-second to utter the word "Call".

If a player wants to look all badass TV poker player by flipping over the nuts when he's been shoved into, he can still do so while saying call. Observe:

Villain - I'm all in.

Hero, snapping immediately after villain's shove - "Call. Nuts." [Shows Hand].

That takes a negligible more amount of effort and still looks equally TV-poker-player badass (or, in my book, stupid). All you're doing is adding one extra word to your statement while you're showing how awesome you are - instead of saying "Nuts!" and showing, you say "Call - Nuts!" and show. Believe me, it'll look just like on TV, and voila, you've left nothing open to a floor interpretation.

lol I know that there is no advantage to silently flipping over our hand. I'll probably never even do this in a casino.. I was just wondering what you guys thought the ruling should be.

A. Why risk it?
B. Majority of the time, your hand is not dead for exposing it.
C. Majority of the time, it is not a call until you say "call" or put the chips in.
D. House rules trump 2+2 B&M consensus all the time.

... just say "call"

Don't give the floor a chance to make a bad ruling or enforce a bad rule.

Mmmm, heads up and all in. Would be interesting to be at the table when you tried to raise in this spot!
