One thing I've always been curious about in this forum is how much people actually play poker. This question seems to come up in small pieces in various threads, but I've never seen a thread dedicated to it.

So here's a poll. Include any play—casinos, home games, charity games, online, etc., as long as it's poker. Also feel free to share how many years you've been playing or other details you may find interesting.

I've been playing for about 18 years—12 years if you only count play since I turned "legal," and 10 years since I started taking it seriously.

Sadly, I only get to play about 5 to 10 hours a week due to a "real" job cramping my style.

I picked 11-20 hours a week on average. It's been more this past year since I've been single, and it's been even more lately because of the WSOP. I play in casinos now, but I played in a home game on the east coast quite a bit in the last year. I usually play cash but like to dabble in the occasional tournament if the structure isn't a total crapshoot.

Same here. When it comes to cash, I prefer a nice deep-stacked big-bet game, or fixed-limit depending on the variant and the crowd. I typically find short-stacked play mind-numbingly boring, not to mention frustrating. Obviously, this makes most tournaments a huge turn-off, but I've found some exceptions.

Not gonna vote because 1. I'm on the app and 2. my hours have greatly varied, but I'm just going to chime in that online should be measured by hands while live by hours. The person who's played 100 hours online is a lot more experienced than yhe person who's played 100 hours live.

Live: Three days a week, 11-20 hours per day.

Online: Whenever I want to pass some time, nothing serious.

Basically the whole U.S., aside from a few jurisdictions, has no legal online poker.

You can reasonably get money onto Bovada and America's Cardroom? Last I checked, U.S. banks are basically prohibited from processing money transfers to gambling businesses, and e-wallets like PayPal generally don't allow it either. Even if the sites technically allow U.S. players, that's a de facto ban.

I know some sites you can get onto with bitcoin, but I wouldn't really count that as being "legal in the U.S."

It is not that difficult to get money onto Bovada; I did it with cash at Western Union.
I think a lot of credit cards work as well, but I didn't want to pay the fee.

a few months ago i put $ on there through netspend it was awful. it ended up costing me $190 to play in the $162 sunday tournament between the netspend fees and the bs fees on bovadas end. i would assume if they have bitcoin now that would be a better option but i havent been back since. i also hear they have been delaying cashouts recently.

Back on topic, gotta say I'm a little surprised at the lack of responses in the last two options. Either no one out of the 44 respondents so far works in a cardroom (don't think that's the case), or all of the respondents who work in a cardroom also play poker.

Figured there would be at least a couple people who work in a cardroom but don't play (or at least don't play anymore).

I'm in a unique spot. I work overseas in 3 month shifts, so when I'm stateside I have R&R for 3 months. I play 3-5 days a week live for 6-14 hour sessions.

I'm afraid it's below 10 hours a week these days, spells of 11-20 may occur. Online is the bulk but trying to step up my live game. Mostly switching back to Holdem from O8 will help, only Omaha High is available live for me, and it has never intrigued me very much.
