Villains stats are 50/4. Specific reads are that he likes to donkbet when hits something on the flop. Not scared of flushes and such.

Pre Flop: Hero is CO with 9 2
UTG folds, UTG+1 folds, MP1 call, MP2 fold, CO raise, Button folds, SB folds, BB folds, MP1 call

Flop: K A 8 (2 players)
MP1 bet, CO calls.

Turn: 4
MP1 bet, CO raise, MP1 call.

River: Q
MP1 Check, CO bet. MP1 call.

Final Pot: A Lot

MP1 shows K 3
Hero mucks 92
MP1 wins

So was my bluff try any good here? I tried representing monster hand but he still called me. What did I do wrong?

I don't think it was that weird. He seems to be a "gut feel" player, and I can easily see him sensing that Klein had him beat in that hand by the river bet.

Besides the K3 hand, what else has he overcalled with? I only really remember him with a set vs Vanessa, overbetting with a flushdraw, reraising with TPMK (then insta mucking), and overbetting AK post-flop.

Also, btw, Ruffin may not be thinking about the hand analysis in the exact same terms as we do, but I think on a basic level, similar thoughts are going through his head as we would with a light call:

"Viffer is loose and aggressive"
"Viffer wouldn't play very many made hands this way"
"It's either a monster or it's a bluff"
"His big bet and the way he bet look he's trying to push me off the hand"

I'd like to also point out that Viffer's demeanor in that entire hand is very different from when he typically has a monster (he usually acts a lot more light hearted and playful) and I think Ruffin is intelligent enough as a person (if not a poker player) to realize that.

I'm not saying Ruffin is an excellent player, and his analysis is very immature, but I don't think his call is terrible in that spot.

C'mon, dude.

I can give you the full extent of his analysis:

"I hit my King, and I'm betting it, and this punk kid isn't pushing me off my hand, no matter what other cards come out or how much he bets later."

It WAS a terrible call, honestly. He was just really lucky that Viffer was completely out to lunch.

The K3 is even more funny when Ruffin snap folded that 99 hand early to the other donk's line with AJ-high (raise flop, check turn, bet K pairing 3 flush river) made no sense.

Yeah that 99 was an easy call. It was the typical "Oh the third king came and he bets it so he has to have it" kinda donk thinking. Total nonsense.

I just loved watch Ruffin put his 100k call on the river two flags at a time, making a row of ten stacks. It was the perfect cringe-worthy finish to a bizarre hand.

Dude, I don't know why you're posting this in this thread, but don't ever bluff a calling station. Just bring them to valuetown when you hit something.

Wow, I was bored and clicked on this thread and can't believe there's a huge discussion of whether or not this Ruffin guy is a good player. He's probably very smart in many ways, but he obviously doesn't really care about the stakes and is just messing around

I wouldn't call it irritating. I still watch the show occasionally. But I used to watch any poker show for the level of poker, the excitement or Jennifer Tilly's cleavage. Now I just watch hoping that Viffer or Antonio will win big, and that Selbst goes broke vs Ruffin

Ruffin's call is obviously horrible with no thought process involved whatsoever, but come on, he's in top 500 richest people in the world. That's pocket change for him.
If he thinks he's good 5% of the time, he will call just to be a hero.

Imagine if it was a 2NL game online. No one would be suprised that a random c-station fish called there. He did have a pair after all!
Just because stakes are higher doesn't change the fundamental level of thinking

You're giving Ruffin too little credit. He's obviously familiar with the aejones theorem!

I even remember Esfandiari saying things like "it's so hard to make a pair I thought I was good".

This morning I was in a small local shop buying bread and newspaper. As I was about to pay the bill, salesman told me: "Would you like these Silly Bandz? Really cool stuff, we just got them". I LOLed hard as I immediately thought of Mr.Robert Croak folding his 6-high flush, and the salesman stared at me totally confused.

The argument to this is that you would think a Billionaire who is in the top 500 richest people in the world would have more sense/brains than to play poker the way he does...
