Wanted to update the most recent post on Harrah's Metropolis. Now, the only game they ever spread is 2-5 nl with NO CAP on the buy-in. I am still sort of new to no limit, but I felt this game would be a gold mine for good deep stack players. At first, I was afraid of the no cap aspect of the game, but the loose and horrible play made it less intimidating. It seemed like 2 of every 3 pots was over $300, with the typical 7 players to flop for $25 each. Got to see QQ beat 88 on a QQ858 board. Too bad there is no bad beat jackpot in this room. If any of you are in the area, I think it's worth the trip. Last night, they had 3 of the 4 tables going for the entire time I was there. I managed to finish +700 and never had a hand that justified a reraise postflop (yeah, I probably played the role of calling station to perfection).

A couple of highlights from the night (details not so important).
4 spade board, 180 in the pot, I bet $70 on the river with the A of spades, and KQ of spades is all in on the turn, get one caller who has who knows what.

7 players to the flop for $25. On the river with board showing ATXXX, having been checked around on every street. I bet $40 with pocket nines, original raiser calls and MHIG. I think they call this a thin value bet. Lucky for me, the "sensible" player to my left mucked a pair of aces.

A quote from a "winning" player after calling pot sized bets on the flop and turn to hit his gutshot straight draw on a paired board: "Once I have ten bucks in, I cant possibly get away from that hand."

The point is, I am not even a good player, and I felt this game was very, very good. And best of all, I got a brand new FM radio simply for showing up at the casino. So, check it out, run hot, report back here your experiences, and ship me half your profits.

Anyone played poker at Metropolis lately? Considering a trip tomorrow (Friday) night, wondering what to expect, or if I shouldn't bother.

Good to hear Illinois is getting some NL play. I moved earlier this year and I had to drive to the Majestic Star to get any NL action. From what I remember about Metropolis, it's only low limit games but they're all terrible players. Enjoy.

Sorry, I probably goofed by reviving a year-old thread. Has anyone been in the last few months, and if so, is the OP's report from 11/2007 still valid? Specifically wondering if they only spread 2-5 NL, if they really only have four poker tables (!) (long wait on a Fri?), and generally if it's worth the trouble, or should I just stay home and play online.

Thanks in advance.

Is the action really that good, and consistent every day?

I'm just having a hard time getting my head around how that's possible, considering the area. I mean, Metropolis is in the middle of nowhere, and nobody has much money around there. You can buy a decent house there for $30k, and your dream home for $100k. I just don't see how action like that is sustainable in that region.

I'm thinking of going either Thursday night or Friday night to Harrah's in Metropolis to play some NLHE. Is there any action on Thursday night? It would be the better of the two nights for me. How is the action typically and do they still only spread 2 5 NL?

Just updating this, I went last night and they were running a 1/2 NL max buy-in $300... They had 2 tables going. They said they usually don't even spread 2/5 NL anymore. The game was super soft, mostly old men that are regulars that will play any 2 cards...I only played for 2 hours and walked away +$321...I thought it was a nicer cardroom than I had read about, plenty of room to stand up and stretch your legs. Thumbs up, definitely a place to return to.
