Getting engaged in Vegas Getting engaged in Vegas

The time has come. After 5 years, she is really pushing the marriage idea now. Since she has never been to Vegas and I love it there, I decided to surprise her and take her out there. I am looking for ideas on how to do the actual proposal. I am not looking for something very public like outside the B's fountains.

We are staying at MGM Signature. I have never stayed there before but I heard good things. If anyone has stayed there, I'd appreciate a pm about the place.

If you get engaged in Vegas it doesn't count when you get home. I learned this from all those Vegas commercials.

Stayed there. It's nice -- more like a studio apartment than a hotel room. Working kitchen area, big bathroom, comfy bed and couches for post-will-you-yes-i-will fun time. MGM up-scale restaurants are an easy walk over too for fancy dinner with new fiance.

Not sure what else you'd want to know ...

Got engaged in Jan in vegas. Was staying at MGM grand, not the signature tho. I talked to the concierge desk and one lady was very eager to help me. She got me a terrace suite for one night for $200, I think its a $800 standard rate. It has a balcony overlooking the strip, and thats where I ended up doing it.

Talk to someone at concierge, if someone doesnt help you, just come back another time and talk to someone else.

Had a meal w/ the gf at stratosphere top of the world restaurant and two couples got engaged before we had even rotated around. I thought it was a pretty lame place but the women seemed happy!

When I went to Vegas last year a dude proposed on the plane. It was horribly awkward for everybody, so please don't do that.

I did a helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon. It was pretty cool and they do a champagne lunch or whatever. If you're willing to shell out a bit of extra dough they could probably take just the two of you and you could propose in the Grand Canyon.

Edit: I was there in November so it was nice and we were the only group there. I bet in the Summer there's a ****-ton of people, so maybe this a bad idea.

I too was suckered into a vegas proposal, mine went pretty smooth atop the Eiffel tower during new years. They were very helpful in the situation.

Engagement leads to all kinds of terrible things-like marriage.

Be very Careful!

I am going out on a limb here, but 2+2 is not exactly where you want to take advice on marriage (I know that was not the OP intent).

Thanks for the advice. I definitely like the Grand Canyon idea. I want it to be private because I really dislike making the event public.

More importantly, what am I going to do in Vegas with my gf/fiancee? I need a way to lose her for a few hours each day to get some poker in?

LOL!

I remember one Saturday night / Sunday morning around 3am in an underground room. I looked around the table and there was not one wedding ring on any of the 10 players. Not to mention at least 7 of the players had to be at least 40 years old.

Trust me there is only one solution. You will need a wingman and so does she.
Bring a buddy and his wife/gf along to vegas with you both.
(or your gf/fiancee's hot friend and her boyfriend).

Agreed, I tried to play through the night whole she slept but that was short lived as she was not happy when i tried to sleep during the day.

You must test her now, if she can handle going on a vacation with you that involves seeing you for < 4 hours a day when in Vegas and never sleeping at the same time, she's a keeper.

I wake the wife up when I get in from the card room at 4am. Actually, I do that even if I'm not in Vegas.

You could give her a day at the Spa but that only gets you to the tables during the day. You could also give her your credit card and send her to the Forum shops. (The result could affect how long the engagement lasts.)

Seriously, you might be able to slip away for some time at the tables before the proposal, but afterwards she is going to want to be with you.

The shopping and spa can really get me some good free time. I don't think that she would mind doing that stuff for a few hours while I played poker. I think that once she has the ring she will definitely be more lenient with me. I'm actually looking to relax during this trip unlike the previous trips with my friends where I slept for about 16 hours over 4 days.

Mike I'm afraid you have it totally backwards. Honestly. Sorry man.
The shopping and spa will be boring for her to do alone for more than a couple hours.
Sure maybe for a SHORT time, during the day, but she won't want to be alone all evening/night when it's prime time for poker.

Once she has the ring she will be more interested in spending time together, not less.
The only way it works is:
1. She has a g/f along to hang around with "early" in the trip.
2. you don't do the ring until "later" in the trip.
3. you and her are together after the ring.

Are you asking for 2+2 volunteers to entertain you fiancee for a couple of hours?
