Etiquette of showing cards first when have nuts? Etiquette of showing cards first when have nuts?

If you have the nuts (or very close to) then I say show the instant the action is done. No reason to drag it out unless you enjoy being that guy that slow rolls.

If I don't have even close to the nuts, I generally at least pause to see if the other player is going to show if I'm the caller, but usually only a beat or two, nothing out of the ordinary, then I flip them up.

In extremely rare cases I'll request a better "show or muck", but there's almost always a specific reason for my doing so.

But I'm not getting back into that argument again, since it applies like less than 1% of the time. Suffice it to say that I think there are times when, as the caller, waiting for the better to show or fold first is a valid strategy.

Second, and most importantly I usually feel like its more important to me to see how they were playing than it is to keep them from seeing how I'm playing. I try to balance my ranges as they say and don't believe most of my opponents do as much.

Finally it's kind of fun to turn over 3 high like its the nuts because nobody does that. It funny to see opponent look back and forth from the board to my cards a couple of times (as well as the rest of the table doing this) b4 he turns over the winner. Kinda steals his thunder.
I love it! I'm the exact same way. Wish more of our opponents treated showdown like this, though.

Asking to see their hand is a little rude, but at higher stakes vs a reg who I expect to be playing a lot, I wouldnt be too concerned about it. I would never ask to see at 1/2, although I might ask them what they had.
