ethics question: should i lie? ethics question: should i lie?

I cbet flop, raised turn and shoved river as a bluff successfully and mucked my hand. The bluff was a little spewy in retrospect but that isnt the purpose of this thread.
After the hand, 2 young regulars said they had a $100 bet based upon what I had in that hand. These regulars are nice guys to play with social wise, they dont wear sunglasses nor earphones. We talk to each other while waiting for a table seat. We are also very competitive with each other. We do not softplay each other and probally try to bluff each other way more than is +EV. I told them that I would tell them before I left (I was leaving in an hour). Before I left I told them my hand and one guy payed the other $100.
Do I have a moral obligation to tell them the truth? If I did not like them would it then be moral acceptable to lie?

If there is a hundred dollars on it I feel your obligated to tell them the truth.

On the other hand if it matters that much (and dont want them knowing), then tell them you'd rather not say, instead of lying to them about your hand.

That's my 2 cents.

Telling two people what you had isn't going to break you in the long run.

I think the best way to get out of this jam would have been to join them...you already said they're nice guys and you enjoy them.

Offer a $100 bet of your own, to each of them -separately, as to which could guess your hand the closest. You'll obviously "win" one bet and "loose the other, but in reality one of these two guys had to pay the other an extra $100 bucks...you're the hero and the nice guy and it didn't cost you anything to join in thier fun

Yeah I was in a situation like this where me and player B were betting on what player C had, and player C said he'd say but we each had to pay him a portion of the winning bet

Would be a total dick move to lie.

Why would you?

Tell them the truth or nothing.

I don't think have any obligation to tell them anything. I would probably refuse. Likely this is just a ruse to find out what you had, so they can exploit it later. Alternately give what ever reply you think is most deceptive.

Have you watched Doyle on Hight Stakes Poker. He often makes similar wagers just to find out what the other guy had, at least that’s how I read it.

If you don't want to reveal your hand, just don't reveal it--tell 'em you ain't gonna spill the beans. If you agree to tell them what you had, tell the truth.

Tell the truth but say you want $75 from the winner of the bet.

Find out the details of the bet and give your version of the truth to whoever gives you the largest reward.

"Gee, I forgot. Which hand was that again...?"

Nothing is gained from lying about your holding. Either tell the truth or lay it off.

If they are friends how do you know he isn't just giving his $100 back to him tommorrow? Free information weee! Probably not the case though.

It's never morally acceptable to lie in this spot. never. Either tell the truth or don't tell.
