Is economic downturn effecting Vegas cardrooms? Is economic downturn effecting Vegas cardrooms?

I've heard through other channels that business in Vegas is slowing down in general. Has anyone out there seen any effect in the poker rooms? Less players in general? Less fish (ie. only the regulars / pros (wannabe or actual)?

I'll be out there in a week and a half (with GF so poker will be somewhat curtailled). Just want to know what's going on out there.

Judging from the size of the hole in my wallet, I think business for at least the Palms was good from April 10th to 13th.

It's slower out here. It "feels" slower, anyway. As I read one economist asking, "can anyone feel a 1 or 2% change in the economy?"

I, personally, believe that business in general in LV is off from two years ago. The poker rooms are not empty by any means, but there are maybe one fewer tables of players in each room.

I also believe that if there is a difference, it's going to affect both tourists and locals, almost equally. That might come as a surprise, but it makes sense. It's a macro thing.

Whether it's the slowdown in the economy overall, or a decrease in the interest in poker, or both, who knows?

Where no one knows is where things are going, but you probably won't really see much of a difference next month. Come on out. If there's a difference, it's not so much that I've seen a huge impact.

Enjoy your trip.

When I was there last weekend it seemed pretty busy. Of course, I usually go on weekdays so that might be why. As far as the competition, it was as weak as ever. Perhaps some people tilting in life are deciding to try and turn it around at the poker tables?

One poker room lost it's entire graveyard shift. Some got moved, several got laid off. When the room goes dark after midnight, no more staff till 10am, no tournaments, no nothing.
