Everyone knows this hand, "Duhamel what a donkey calling off nearly his stack with jacks on that board", "affleck is never bluffing there"....

however after watching the final table and seeing Duhamel's take on the hand, he mentions how he wanted to gamble and he knew if he won the hand he would be an overwhelming chip leader and practically a guarantee to finish in the top 3

i agree completely with him and kind of look at it as "implied odds" {and im talking in a theoretical sense}
he knew if he won he would be in a great position to win it all, or atleast coast into a top 3 or 4 finish

but if he folded he would have no where near the chance of winning. folding or losing the hand would have nearly the same outcome, however gambling and hoping for a 8,J or Q would give him a nearly guaranteed top finish. he was not getting the right price to try and improve his hand but whatever

When he called the shove I remember he asked Affleck if he had tens & nines. Not tens or nines, tens & nines, T9. Clearly he was putting Affleck on the wrong range, containing a lot of hood and outplay-postflop hands, and he called against that range even though he had blockers to the pair+draw part.

Sounds sexier to say "I wanted to gamble" than "I got pwned lolz ". Quite similar to Kopp when he THOUGHT DARVIN MOON WOULD FOLD A HIGHER FLUSH.

easily top 3 memorable hand since WSOP started being televised regularly in 2003, maybe #1. Just one of those spots where Duhamel thought Affleck was picking on him because they were so deep compared to everyone else and Affleck had position, but still a mess of a hand.

i've watched all wsop's since 2003 and although the hand was one of the most memorable i always seem to remember affleck's reaction to it even more,like Thor had dropped from the skies and battered him with that hammer 200 times

I have never felt someone's pain more than affleck's at that moment in time

He played his heart out,never stepped out of line and in a game of big's ego he was a refreshing change

Every time I start thinking, "Hey I should just drop the money and play the Main Event. I'll be on my A++ game all day every day. I'll bluff the right spots and have the goods otherwise. It's gonna be great. How should I spend my mirrions?" I look at pic 4. Good feelings gone.

That is being results oriented. He got him to put all his chips in the pot with 21% equity with one card to come. A 5 bet shove likely gets Duhamel off the JJ, where he is crushed. He set the trap masterfully and just got unlucky. As the old cliche goes, "thats poker"

Hes playing to win the tournament. The standard low variance option would be to 5bet jam, but Matt was trying to double up and become a massive chip leader to win the tournament.

We've all been in duhamel's state of mind where you've been playing too long and you snap a little when you realize you havn't had a chance to play a hand in awhile and now ur beat.
