The chips are rarely if ever washed, the cards are touched by all, the seats are dirty from touch and sweat, the table is dirty from continuous play. Do not forget the many digusting people coming out of the bathroom and never washing. God only knows what is being done with the drinks you order. It is a dirty place. Wash your hands alot and pray. Please people shower more often and deoderant is not against the law.

At my local cardroom they apparently have some bad quality felt on the table. Whenever you shuffle chips you end up with lots of dirty green/black stuff under your nails.

Does that happen to you too and what do you do against it?

im liking sassy's disease spreading prevention equipment. A tad archaic me thinks, but no doubt effective!

Is not just the spreading of germs which concerns me but i always get paranoid that there is some sly communication going on, if ya get me?!

This always happens to me. I keep my nails very short, cutting or filing them at least every other day when on a poker vacation. Nothing else you can do to prevent this unless you just stop shuffling chips, but that's a habit I like.

Washing hands is good. At Woods they have a hand sanitizer at one of the floor's podiums.

EDIT: It would be nice if every day they washed all of the poker players ala Shawshank Redemption

I see player come into the men's room, use the urinals and walk right out. I see players at the tables with filthy hands and /or fingernails. I have players jump up, say "I'm going to the bathroom" (thanks for sharing by the way) and run off. they're back in less than a minute and I KNOW they couldn't have used the toilet AND washed their hands but they didn't miss a hand.

I try to cough and sneeze into my elbow, if I can.

I wash my hands on every break, could be 5 or 8 times a day.

If you don't piss on yourself at the urinal and don't touch the flusher w/ your hand do you have to wash?

Yep, keep them short. That's about all you can do, other than hand sanatizer

Are chips really dirty? I don't hold on to them long enough to find out....

Never mind the germs....check the next pot you drag for a missing chip. I saw some FOX "caught on the job" show a while back where a BJ dealer was stealing chips this way.

Also, I always b/i with "ass chips" a variant on the "ass pennies" concept, it certainly helps avoid any steam after losing a bit pot:

I agree, I don't like it when dealers cough into their hand... But, what can you do?

Announce "I'm going to the bathroom"
Wash hands
Do whatever you have to do
Wash hands
Unwrap Hershey's bar that has been sitting in your shirt pocket, getting soft.
Eat chocolate, but make sure you get a lot on your fingers.
Return to table.
Announce "I really needed that."
'Notice' brown stuff on fingers.
Lick it off.

I know. I'm sick.

Of course, so many guys use that as an excuse to be lazy and wash their hands. It don't matter if you didn't get your hads dirty in the bathroom, think about everthing you've touched since you washed your hands last. Every door knob, poker chip, card, steering wheel, railing on the escalator, anything. I'm a bit of a germaphobe but try to ignore it at the poker table. I screwed up when I went to the Borgate 2 weekends ago, I lost a big pot on the river and went to eat to cool off. I ate a Cheesesteak sub (Best I've ever had btw) but was frustrated so I didn't wash my hands until after I ate. I was sick for 2 days...

Wash your hands every time you're in a bathroom or near a sink.

I wash my hands before I use the bathroom, especially in a casino. I like my junk too much to spread casino filth on it.

Well not to get too detailed here, but there is the invisible splashback from peeing and not to mention the fact that you touched your wang. I mean, I could just as well say "I touched the toilet paper only; why wash my hands?"

Perhaps you were being facetious

It originates (AFAIK) from an old Military joke:

A Squid (Navy) and a Grunt (Army Infantryman) are standing at two urinals. As they finish their business the Squid walks over to the basin to wash his hands while the Grunt heads towards the exit. The Squid hollers to the Grunt, "Hey, didn't they teach you to wash your hands in the Army?". The Grunt replies, "No, they taught us not to piss on them in the first place."

tell floor. ask them if they have a policy regarding this (as i was told foxwood's has). if they do, tell them dealer violated policy. if they don't, tell them they should institute one.

Not that there's a bias against dealers around here, but since I read this OP, I've noticed about 40 players cough into their hands, compared to 0 dealers.

Wow, a dealer that looks at players more often than other dealers. If we could only stop the story telling and the mistakes this would be a major improvement.
