Alright guys, I will be going to school this fall in Norcal (originally from socal) and I do not know any casinos up here and I would like to hear you guy's opinions on quality, softness and your recommendations. Oh by the way, I am looking to play low NL Cash game. Thanks guys!

You need to be more specific, SF Bay Area? Sacramento? Tahoe? Stockton? Fresno?

In the Bay Area: There's the San Pablo Lytton Casino that has a 100NLHE game that is really juicy, if 100NLHE is your thing. Lucky Chances in Colma has $3-$5, $5-$10, and $10-$10-$20 ($40-to-go) NLHE. The big game has no buy-in cap, but I don't know about the smaller ones. The Palace in Hayward has a $1-$1-$2 ($5-to-go) game with no buy-in cap.

Warning: No-cap games play dramatically differently from the capped games that have become so popular and are what modern internet players think of as "No-Limit Hold'em."

The cap on $3/$5 is $500. The cap on $5/$10 is $1K.

You might want to be more specific than NorCal and "Low NL" but you can find a lot here (on the Bay Area at least):

The California Grand just re-opened and from what I can tell the small NLHE game (2-2-3 $200max) is pretty soft.. The room is beautiful now too.
Same regs, just now that they moved, many more fish, more times of the week..

There are no 18+ casinos in the Bay Area.

Ok, so you're going to UCD. Was that so tough? O.o

You'll be going to Sacramento to play cards unless you play exclusively in the Bay. Do a thread search on Sacramento and you'll find plenty of information. LL NLHE, Limelight's probably your best bet.

Edit: Oi, yeah just considered that if you're a "true" freshman you'll need an 18+ casino. Jackson Rancheria's it for you if that's the case, ~45 min drive from Sacto. Although if you're in the dorms, see if you can find some dorm games... I used to make some pretty decent side cash playing those when I was a student

Yeah, no kidding. If I knew then what I knew now, we'd have had an entire underground casino operation going by the time I graduated. Set up a nice game somewhere, take the money of drunk college kids spending their allowances.

Try either Capitol Casino or Lucky Derby in the Sac area.

Both have a decent range of games playing and the Lucky Derby has a good Tuesday night tourney.

For SAC, Capital is a great club, Limelight is also good but where do you park??
If your in Folsom area or Citrus Heights, Lucky Derby or the Phoenix are good spots.

In their new lot up Alhambra about half a block. Have to go the long way around though, since Alhambra is 1 way (in the wrong direction to check whether or not Limelight's got any parking...)

How's the limit action in Sac, say between 6/12 to 20/40? I loved the 9/18 at Cap when I was in town last year, big action game.

Even better, you have more skills and resources to set up a game for all those doe-eyed 18 year olds, fresh away from home for the first time, innocent and lost.

Get 'em!

You can just tell us what school you're going to, that would help a lot.

Is your school in Chico, Sacramento or Davis?

I can tell you everything you need to know.

Only cash game? How about tourney? Also, how many people do you usually have?

Well I would defintiely talk to the above guy about his homegame in Davis, that sounds sweet.

But your best bet is to head to Sacramento, and usually for the Capitol Casino.

They have plenty of NL that you're looking for and LHE regularly up to 6 12, although I have played as high as 9 18 there.

Good luck.

Don't go to the Lucky Derby in Sac. It's terrible. Not worth the drive for you.
