i was playing at mirage and the dealer said players can no longer request to see hands. is this rule at all vegas poker rooms or just mirage? anybody experience this?

I assume that you're referring to mucked hands at showdown.

I think this means any hand that is called. rather than any hand that calls.

Player 1 bets player 2 calls player 1 mucks and said you got me

player 2 deserves to see the hand player 1 mucks,

you call the player out not the pot.

with out doubt this rule has been implemented in the interest of keeping the deal progressing.
