You have bigger poker problems than dealers if you call UTG $15 preflop raises with AJ

might i relate a personal experience from my past...
Bay101, San Jose, CA, mid-1990's, 2/4 limit hold-em, pot's about 45.00 or so.
I've got 2nd best hand @ the table... i make a crying call.
Dealer says, "show me"[or sometimes they say "open"].
So this guy @ one end of the table [with the winner] yells "SHIP IT!".
And throws his cards, face up, towards the center of the table.
Miraculously, both cards slide, and one of them barely touches the muck.
"FLOOR!" i shout out.
Floorman comes over, a bit of a heated discussion ensues, i finally turn my cards over, and take down the pot, with the 2nd-best hand.

moral: always turn your winners over gently,
and never be afraid 2 call the floorman, no matter how
chicken-chit the stakes are

editz: and yes, i'm aware this was a cheap friggin' angle shot.
i have agonized [or laughed hysterically, depending on mood] about this ever since.

Seriously, posting here isn't going to help.

It never ceases to amaze me about the people who post about their own horrible behavior.

To the people who keep saying this, have you ever played a live 1/2 game? People open with some awful hands, and most aren't even aware of position. I'm not saying calling was necessarily right, but depending on the game, OP could be a favorite.

If he threw them face up, does it matter if one "barely touches the muck"? Face down that touches the muck is definitely mucked, but face up, there's no question which cards were his.

Face-up, no, it shouldn't matter. Face-down, it also shouldn't matter, because the dealer should be protecting the muck and a reasonable floor should rule it live since the player obviously didn't intend to fold.

However, there's a valley of disappointment between "should" and "is". Protect your hand.

He should raise or fold. Calling is the worst option.

The moral of this story is that you are an incredible douche.

Once at the borgata in a 4 way pot two or three were all in on the flop and another player bet more than the pot and I called, there was over 200 dollar in the remaining sidepot between us and we checked turn and river. on the river the first all inner shows his cards and has the best hand, the guy in the sidepot shows a worse hand and i can't beat the first all inner (just had QQ) so i mucked my cards even tho I had the sidepot guy beat.
Right after they touch the muck I reach out to grab them because I realize I just threw away 200 but then I said 'I just mucked them didn't I' and they all nod . gosh I'm dumb .

as for the OP hand in question after the "dealer looks at me and says he showed and it's his pot." that's your cue to tell the floor about this dealer.

I was at this table for 4 hours when this hand took place so was UTG my call was correct. I would have raised here if I had a better read on middle, he was only sitting for about 45 minutes. But if you want I can give you some tips on when you should change your play based on the table just send me a PM.

If you're routinely calling raises with AJo, that play should change before you sit down.

As a floorperson I would want to know if any of my dealers were reaching into the muck on their own. It's rarely done even by shift managers. No floor I know would go digging in the muck after someone folded their hand without tabling it first. That's a dead hand plain & simple.
