PTO is a rarity for dealers regardless if they're full or part-time in my experience. And if you're in a market that pays less than minimum wage because of your expected tips the hit you take for vacations and sick days is.especially not fun.

Lots of people I know work extra board or as minimally scheduled in more than one room, making a decent vacation almost impossible to orchestrate. We get access to benefits at my room even as part-time (pay-cut) after 6 months. I think my room is an exception.

The (admittedly, full-time) floors I know don't generally face these problems.

I know a casino who pays their FT dealers 160hrs a year of PTO at State minimum wage, even tho they get paid less hourly for their tipped position.

There was supposed to be a new law enacted that required employers to give PTO for every 'X' hours worked, not by 'status'. Not much fanfare by the press however, so I'm not sure if it was ever signed by our governor.

Personally I think PTO is better for 'a lot' of employees than higher wages. Nothing better than doing whatever and thinking that the boss is paying you while you do it!! GL

This is the way it should be everywhere.

We get PTO at well above our base rate. It accumulates based on the number of hours worked. At the end of the year they buy out any extra over X hours (I forget the number) so there's no advantage to using them normally. I just treat it as part of my hourly pay that I won't see for a while.

In order to get full time with benefits you have to be dual rate or full time floor.

The other day I am dealing a 300 max buyin game. Everybody is very deep since it's very late at night/early in the morning (3AM). One guy loses a medium sized pot and has about 260 in front of him. So he pulls out about 150 in purple chips (25 dollars) and starts talking to the table.

"Everyone is so deep. Lets gamble. Does anyone mind if I add on?"

I immediately respond, "sir, the max buy-in is 300. You can add on to 300, but not above it."

He says, "dealer, I wasn't talking to you. I was talking to the table. So does anybody object?"

"Even if none of the players object, I still object. So do you want to add on to 300? If so, I have to color down the purples because they don't play."

He looked at me as if I had sprouted an extra head from my shoulder. Anyway, the next hand he 3bet someone and they 4bet him and he folded, so he was able to add on the entire 150.

To be fair, I think you need to clarify if you actually sprouted another head.

I'm surprised he asked ... normally they just add on, especially for such a small amount over the max.

We have an issue with one guy who likes to sit in the 1 or 9 and has his red in a single outward row (ala Nick on LATB). He will add on blacks and keep them hidden behind the red until called out or it's been a few hands. Then he'll rearrange his chips more normally. The other day he had just sat down (for $500) and all of sudden had 7-8 blacks in his stack without me remembering he won a pot. GL

Add on to $410 in a 300 max game is "such a small amount"?

Yes. 110 over the max in. 3am game where everyone is deep is a small amount.

I have no problem from a logical standpoint to allowing him to top up beyond the max, but I am not going to put something up to a vote that has a very clear answer from my superiors. It's the same reason why I wouldn't allow a double straddle or a button straddle in games where they are not allowed, even if all players agreed.

I don't want to be the bad guy when I can avoid it, but I also don't want to violate rules. When someone wants to put more money on the table than the regs allow, I call the floor and let them make the determination.

What's the status on this forum being named in YTF's honor?

I doubt anyone would object.

It's happening. Latt and I are deciding on the naming, and we're waiting on RR for the summary blurb, though I may rename soon and add the explanation later. I've just been very busy with some real life stuff.

I think it's a bad idea. I've seen stuff like this ruin forums or at least quarantine part of them from visitor traffic.

I'm fine with that; just want to make sure that the powers that be know this is under contention and not unanimous.

Why can't he have his own thread where everybody circle-jerks his accomplishments? What if I was new to this forum? Where am I to go if I want to talk to other dealers that work in the industry? How am I supposed to know that the YTF thread is dedicated to that?

Why stop with just this one thread? Why not rename the tipping thread and dedicate it to Ebenezer Scrooge? Every bumped thread in Casino & Cardroom Poker can be dedicated to someone on 2+2.

I don't think derailing the stated purpose of this thread is the best way to honor a dead croupier.

.
So if the title of the thread becomes:

The YTF Breakroom: low-content gaming employee chatter thread. See posting restrictions in Post #1!

Or
Bobby's Breakroom: low-content gaming employee chatter thread. See posting restrictions in Post #1!

That you couldnt figure out what the thread is about?

I would love it if we could just acknowledge that 1 person doesn't like the name change and move on. No need for a debate.

In more thread specific news, I no longer have to request to be on the EO list. The shift supervisor and DC both know that I'm an auto-EO.

Heck yes, I'm proud.
