(I can't really blame the button-movers too much in my room. From what I've observed, SOP seems to be pull the slot, move the dot, muck everything, push the pot. Almost all dealers, including supervisors filling in, do it this way.)

One of our regular mental cases was stuck and steaming the other night, and after getting rivered a couple of times in a row, said the most hurtful thing he could think of, directed at me (he mocked a physical ailment of mine).

I didn't take it personally--how can I take seriously what a mental patient has to say?--but I used to study theater in my younger days, and I could make myself cry on cue, and this incident made me wonder:

--if I still had that particular talent;
--how the players/staff would react if word got out this known jerkbag made YTF cry.

I swear to God, the only reason I didn't try it, was because I was afraid that nobody would believe me afterwards when I insisted I was just acting.

No point in indulging scum.

One of our local scumbags is NEVER GOING TO TIP ME AGAIN! Boo hoo. Really broken up about that.

I had to give a penalty for English only to a regular player last week. He proceeded to inform me that when he hits the jackpot, he isn't going to give me A DIME! Oh the humanity. He then pointed out all the floormen that he WILL be tipping and informed me that I would just look stupid with my hand out begging him for a tip.

I didn't have the heart to tell him that floors pool tips on the Jackpot in my room.

Turns out the trainer for the losing horse essentially went into a year long depression, but then had a winner the next year, that time fighting off a challenger by a head.
Trainer of losing horse is Bob Baffert, who is now considered one of the greatest of all time--a distinction shared by D. Wayne Lukas, who trained the winner.

Make it known in advance that you can do it at will, and then you pulling it out when a player deserves it will be the stuff of legend.

Don't tell him that because then he won't tip for the jackpot at all just so he can stiff you.

I'm considering learning English.

Whatever language I was speaking today didn't seem to be working.

My current poker room is about to offer 3 tables of 3 Card Poker, the typical table game you see in casinos. I've been offered to train to deal this game. Any immediate thoughts? We thought there might have been a chance we could have kept our own tips there but it's going to be pooled

Back I the day i had friends who worked in a poker room where they spread Caribbean Stud Draw and Three Card Poker. Poker dealers would get rotated thru and kept their own and heard some good stories of dealers making some big big bucks on 3 card

Three Card is the most boring of all the poker-themed table games. I'm sorry.

I did work one place where poker dealers rotated through the one table of California Blackjack. It was only once or twice a night, so not a huge deal. We kept our own tips. Usually just a few bucks, but every now and again you could score a hundred or two. Nobody seemed to mind. Pooling would just dilute them to meaningless, and is a mess of paperwork, so might as well give yourself the chance of hitting a score.

Dealing table games as the majority of my rotation, though, and I want them pooled.

The following story is really about funny players, not tipping.

One of the regs in our room a couple of years ago got all bent out of shape because he felt the dealer had been rude while calling hands at showdown (dealer had no idea why.)
He yelled out, "Well, I'll remember you! That's the last tip you're ever gonna see from me!"

One of the other players at the table "Oh, is that so, G? Here you go dealer!" as he puts a stack of $75 on the table for the dealer.
"That should cover the next two years, with the number of hands he wins."

Once heard a dealer respond to an angry reg, "What are you gonna do? Start tipping me?"

Today in the box I told one of our biggest action junkies that I was developing an extension for Chrome to work with bravopokerlive. You just click it and it tells you if he's in the room.

He laughed.

Awesome Quad.

How many of you guys bring the turn and river card before you bring the bets in?

I do, and I'd say most dealers I've seen also do. However, of all the dealers I consider very good (or better), the ratio is closer to 50/50. Just wondering what you guys thought.

I do less than 50% of the time. But I gather chips fast, two handed, w/o rolling the deck. It isn't horrible to do, but one should be somewhat careful about it. If something happens that requires a floor call you're at fault.

When I stopped doing this, I stopped having burn-and-turns. Just had my annual performance review this week, I was told I had zero burn-and-turns in 2013. I either had zero or one the year before, I can't recall.

Having said that: lately, if I'm in a higher-stakes game where people pay attention to things and don't needlessly dawdle and don't hide their cards with their hands, and IF I feel that my mind is focused and not wandering/distracted by every little thing, then I'll start with the shortcut you're asking about.

I also stopped doing this years ago. There was a time I did it and was convinced it sped things up, but I no longer believe this. And I believe it goes a long way to prevent early burn and turns.

Very very rarely.

Exaclty. And also echo psand and bigfish. I'm glad you guys feel the same way. At a high stakes FL game (100/200 or thereabouts), I had players request that I bring the bets in first. Same at a 25/50 PLO.

Bringing them early speeds nothing up. The players still usually wait for you to bring in the bets before betting the next street. And you risk losing so much. Aside from the obvious burn and turn risk, if you're bringing in bets later, you have to double check that no chips have been taken back. And the more time you spend on all that, the less time you're spending watching the action.

It's just not worth it. To me, it looks sloppy. My goal for my game is for action to be crystal clear to someone who just walked up to the table.

In FL games I'd say always bring em in first because they play much faster and bet sizes are the same so you could get them mixed up. In games like 1/2NL its meh, you can get away with leaving them out.

Would you believe me if I told you that this was the policy in my room?

Spoiler:
It is.

This was always a pet peeve of mine. It is virtually impossible to have an early burn and turn if you bring the bets in first. Any time that might be saved by leaving them out is lost the first time their is a floor call because of it.

That's nothing. I worked in a room where we had to leave out preflop bets. But only half of them.
