Do they take a buck a hand over a certain pot size? Generally, how big does the pool get before it's hit?

An O/8 player who's smart enough to know his quads are beat, but doesn't know about the bbj? There's something you don't see every day.

We take a buck a hand no matter what. In this case the JP was just under 19K for the O8 game.

This is why it was so amazing. Usually Omaha players know EVERYTHING.

My New Years resolution for the past year was to not gamble for the whole year (I allowed a few small exceptions -- the only one that I did do was a small contribution to my parents for lottery tickets when the Jackpot got to insane levels). On as the year ends I have successfully completed that goal. I just bought a new car ..... I suspect these things are related......

For the coming year I will open myself up to occasionally playing some poker ...... but I am done for good with the casino games and machines.

I definitely need to follow you on that. I play poker a fair amount and do just fine, but I need to stop pissing away money at the table games. Thankfully, I've never been interested in slot machines.

I have gone through the whole year without drinking a soda. Doesn't sound like much, but I would average probably 3-4 sodas a day before I stopped.

I got quite a good response last night at the podium after a push with the line

"What has two thumbs and is on break out of 19? This Guy."

I guess they hadn't heard that one before.

Congrats, psand! Stay strong!

On the topic of fiscal responsibility... resist the urge to EO, guys. Seriously. If you feel you don't need the cash, then take the money earned after you would have been cut, and just put it away in a savings account. Once you've collected enough, start investing in retirement accounts.

This crap is exponential, yo. And your job could end at any minute without warning.

So could your life.

Which is why I'll stick to enjoying it rather than grinding myself to the bone at work for an extra couple bucks.

You have to find a balance that works for you.

Please EO often. When you aren't EOing we all make less.

And remember, the Play List is the fast track to the EO List!

(My New Years Resolution: EO less.)

Heh. No play list here. Employees can't play at all.

One of the first things I was taught about evaluating dealers was to hire degenerate gamblers. They need to work to get a buy-in and then after they have a buy-in, they will buy-in.

edit to add: Also in some circumstances playing while on break is encouraged.

I had one of these. Problem was that if he was running good, he no longer needed to work for the buy in so he liked to call in to sit online... When he went busto, he'd ask for more hours.

Trying to keep my record intact of never being in the building at the stroke of 12 on NYE. Gonna be tough. Started at 4.

I love reading this thread, especially now that I happen to be not-so-gainfully employed at a casino. Was hired as a prop player at a smaller indian place here, but they also trained me to deal (free dealer school, go me!) to fill in for tournaments or super busy days if they need. Smaller place = makes the most of their employees, lol. Fortunately, the few downs I've dealt so far have been fairly uneventful...so no good stories to share.

Anyway, wanted to pop in and say Happy New Year (i got EO!) and I'm looking forward to reading more fun stuff from you guys, and maybe contributing my own some day

Had a strange thing happen and wasn't sure the best way to police it

A player folded his big blind to a raise preflop. On both the flop and the turn, while the sb was deciding to check or bet, this player with no cards taps the table in a very common checking motion. This was our lowest limit game offered and it was like a 6 way flop. This caused the player next to act after him to also check and the avalanche soon followed. What's your play?

After the hand I tried my best to politely tell the former bb that his taps while out of the hand can confuse the other players... He looked at me crazy and ignored me. Nobody else said anything. Couldn't think of a better way lol

Per someone's suggestion here, I've lately just been yelling, "Stop!" Nothing else seems to stop the cascade.

Back to the topic of bringing in bets before or after dealing the next card... As I was dealing tonight, I remembered my biggest reason. The players have a right to see that the pot is made right. When there's no action pending, they have opportunity to give 100% attention to my hands and what they're doing.

Most of my procedures satisfy the idea that it's not about what I know, it's about what I can demonstrate.
