Is this a bad fold from Mercier, or a sick bluff from Trickett? Is this a bad fold from Mercier, or a sick bluff from Trickett?

It's very easy for Jason's AA to be no good here, but could he have called with the action? or is it an easy fold?

Tricketts betting actually tilts me

When he bets like 15k into a pot of 50k. He did the same in the One Drop tournament the pot is like 20 million he bets 1.6m then the pots 23m he bets 2.4m and it just tilts me

Honestly dont rate him as a player, he just has a multi millionaire backer (who is also a fraudster) that paid for him to go into all these expensive tournaments. But now hell be able to pay himself

Also you dont know the scenario on this hand - Trickett may have played like a nit all day - and so this fold wouldnt be a bad fold, if that was the case

Yeh, JT also gets there by the river, I actually like the small value bluff on the river. It looks like the goods and your asking to be called, a very underrated play. Mercier should have bet the turn if he wasn't checking for pot control though.

I watched this a few weeks back I agree and had mercier re raised the pot he could of saved himself his losses.
Tricket was mega lucky to have come second in the million drop he rivered quads. I've seen him play bad and i've also seen him play good.

Only time will tell with tricket I give him 5 years from now he'll either be broke or one of the best in the world

Its hard for Trickett to have a bluff here, the only bluff he can have is weak Qx, And some % of the time I expect him to realize his SD value. Maybe some mid pp turned into bluff. Given Merciers weakness, I dont hate turning small-mid PP into a bluff here.

Here is my opinion. By 3-betting preflop, Jason Mercier is essentially representing a big pair, AK, AQ. Betting the flop narrows his range to pretty much AA, AK, KK, QQ, or maybe AQ. Worse pairs (e.g JJ and TT) would probably hope for a cheap showdown. However, Mercier checking the turn indicates that he hates that second king. At this point, most likely holdings for Mercier are basically AQ and AA, which don't look too good anymore. Trickett, realising this, turns his Q8 into a bluff. I say this since a value-bet doesn't make sense because it is unlikely that he would get any action from a worse hand. Mercier calls since he can still beat a Q. However, Trickett betting the river is a good representation of a Kx type of hand, perhaps KQ or 44 also. The 9 on the river also completes the straight, so a J10 semi-bluff got there too. Given all this, I believe Mercier makes a good fold. There just were very few hands he could beat.

I just dont get really what is Trickett trying fold out here? There are just so few combos... AQ and maybe AA? That seems way too few to me. And I don't think Trickett has a reason to think Mercier would 3-bet QT/QJ pre/

Mercier shouldn't fold. He has the top of his turn checking range (presumably). Trickett shouldn't bluff with this hand, he has too much SDV and if he's bluffing this he's bluffing waaaaaay too much.
