Specifically Bangalore (having to go there on business for ~4 weeks, ugh)....does anyone know if there are casinos w/ poker rooms? I google'd a bit and was unclear from the results, so I just thought I'd ask.

Thanks.

The only legal casino in India is in the state of Goa, on the west coast. It is nowhere near Bangalore.

And bro, don't say "ugh" about India. It is a fascinating country. Just be sure to get a prescription for Cipro for stomachaches.

Gambling isn't against any religion. Its just that the Govt is too prudish to allow anything fun. Even lotteries are banned in most states. I doubt if you'd find any casino in Bangalore, and even if you do, if you'd get much action.

Islam forbids gambling. There are several hundred million muslims in India. I think gambling will be pretty limited in India.

I've been to India plenty of times and I can tell you there is no real gambling, except perhaps in the casino mentioned. As a further thought, from someone who has gambled all over the world, gambling in third world countries is not worth the risk. No matter how good the game is -- you have to weigh the potential $$$ won with the fact that you are walking out of the casino with a fortune of $$$ to some local who saw you playing, or even dealt you the cards. Do you want to be knifed by your dealer or the pit boss? What is going to stop him from doing it? If you are in a country you know and have great security, it is possible. But I've rarely been in a situation where I thought it was a good idea, unless I knew I was leaving the country immediately from the casino, and I had substantial local security that I trusted 100%.

Thanks for the responses....much more info than google. I have since talked to some folks who say its not a bad place to go. I only said "ugh" because of the long flight and being away from my kids for so long. I think it will be a good experience.

Thanks to all for your insight.

well in that part you are certainly right. For the love of all that is holy, don't fly on Air India (government owned rattletrap airline). Go British Airways. There is another Indian international carrier that is privately run, and gives good service from what I am told. I can't think of the name.

There's also almost a billion Hindus, and another 10% are Christians...I don't think they are going to ban gambling because the Muslims said so. They will ban gambling however due to their unbelievably old fashioned way of thinking here.

And yes, India should be followed with an "ungh". Stay here a year and see how you do. God I hate this place.

Someone mentioned Goa....they did hold a major ($1M pool) tournament there last year and will again this year, looks like. Take a train or plane there some weekend or something.

Right. If Mississippi can get over religious objections to casino gambling, anyone can.

Well, now I'm thinking Alabama is a more apt comparison than Mississippi....
