Allowed to show your hand? Allowed to show your hand?

Say someone goes all in, everyone folds and it gets to you, are you allowed to show your hand to someone to try to get a read off of them? If you can't physically show them, can you tell them exactly what you have to try to get a read off of them?

We have done this in the home games I play in but I wonder if you would be allowed to in a casino.

It depends.

In some casinos it's perfectly okay.

In others, it kills your hand.

Best to ask first.

Some rooms allow this, the room I deal in does not.

It is not allowed in tournaments, it does not kill your hand but you will likely get a penalty after the hand is over.

I play at the VIC in London and it kills your hand.

So in some you can, some you can't.

Is it the same about telling them exactly what you have?

Is it usually if you can't show you also can't tell or are there some you can't tell or show and some where you can't show but you can tell?

It's a dumb idea on so many levels that it's hardly worth discussing ad nauseum yet again.

I'm guessing that you are saying it's a dumb idea because you don't want them to know what you have but actually I have found, it works pretty well for me most of the time.

In the dangerous world of stupidity / nitnicity of today's poker environments, it's a bad idea because

a) dumb rules / rulings might get your hand killed
b) idiots / morons / angle shooters will attempt to get your hand killed as a result of your pulling this maneuver
c) it's iffy whether it works or you just think it works from watching TV. After all, you ain't Doyle

Maybe, but I suggest that you don't try this often against good players....

You're only allowed to do this in casinos if you're wearing a hoodie, sunglasses and iPod. If not, your hand is dead.
