Advice on my planned vegas trip Advice on my planned vegas trip

Well im finally 21... vegas is my next target. (im currently saving up).

I want to play mainly 1/2, and plan on staying in vegas for a month, playing only poker (no table games), NLHE, fullring. I really dont want to be playing shorthanded, if the table get shsorthanded ill be racking up.

I want your advice on which rooms to frequent. I dont want to choose one room and stick to it, but i dont want to be trying every single room out there either. Tips on the best 3 or 4 casinoes to play in would be what im looking for here really. based on availability of games, what the average villain skill level is like, to an extent, how wild the games are (the wilder the better, open raises to 10BB+ etc), How well run the room is by the staff that work there, and lastly comps (i know nothing about wht the rooms offer as comps, would i be able to eat for free once a day playing for say 8 hours?)

Ideally i would have 3 or 4 rooms fairly close to each other so i can finish up in one then walk "across the road" to the next. Also, is there free transport running up and down the strip? ive ehard a rumour there is like a free shuttle bus or something... if not is it a long walk? (never been as you might be able to tell)

Any casino you sugest please let me know what you think of the above criteria. and miscellaneos reasons for suggesting it would be cool too.

Many thanks!

I have several levels of advice. Which level you follow depends on your capability to make a good decision in life.

1. If you are going to vegas to play 1/2 and ride free shuttles, you can't afford to go to vegas.

Barring that advice, do the following:

2. Since you want to play in multiple casinos, do due diligence on cardrooms offering freerolls for hourse played and also those that give comp dollars. You might try T.I., Harrah's, sahara, or downtown...I'm certain plenty will offer weekly freerolls for those losers putting in hours at the 1/2 game...and besides, you'll need to earn some comp dollars cuz that's probably the only way you'll get to eat without dumpster diving or crashing a buffet.

Barring that advice, do the following:
3. Show some effin balls and scout out bigger games when you first get there and only sit down and play the best bigger games you see. Keep trying to move up if you win and spot bigger games that are good...and if you bust out, you don't waste an entire month of your life on some baby limit pipe dream...if you don't bust out, you'll be balla in a month. Either way, you'll end up with more knowledge about your game at the end of choice #3.

Soft games at the south end of the strip. Excalibur, Tropicana, Luxor all have 1/2 games that are easy to beat. They also offer $4 food comps for every 4 hours. You have to ask for the comps, let them know you're there for the long haul.
If you go to downtown Vegas, I believe the Golden Nugget offers $10 food comps. I remember it being considerably better.

I agree with ooga that you really should be scoping out bigger games. Playing 1/2 NL is a high variance game where anyone with $50 can walk in off the street and hit cards. If you're not running good, it's easy to lose a lot of money fast. I had days where I would cash $1600 playing $1/2 but I've also had days where I've dropped $800

Be sure to check out Venetian, Bellagio, Wynn as those are pretty nice rooms and I do believe even Bellagio has 1/2. Although last time I was there, they only had one 1/2 table going as it's mostly middle higher limits @ Bellagio. 1/2 is soft everywhere in Vegas I noticed. I've played in plenty of soft small stakes NLHE games at places like Ballys, Flamingo and the Rio. The Rio has 1/3 which is preferable to me over 1/2 so I like it for that. Caesar's has 1/3 as well but the Harrah's casinos all have a $5 rake I believe.

Just as a side note, Mandalay Bay used to have (don't know if they still have it) a 2/4 NLHE game with a buy-in of $200, no more no less. You only start out with 50 BBs obviously but it was a really fun fun game. It was worth it to steal a little more frequently once in a while pre and on the flop because of the larger blinds in relation to the stack sizes. I'm going to check that game out when I go down in June.

I understand what your saying about playing these games, but I dont intend on staying at 1/2 forever... but im not ever going to be rolled for much higher at the wage im working for at the moment... so i would rather go out and lose a little playing the microest of stakes than save up for a heck of a lot longer. Im not going to be bothered if i lose whilst im out there. Obv i would rather win... but to get an amount of money for big games that i can afford to lose and dont mind losing will take far too much time. the moeny im planning to set aside for the trip i will consider as lsot moeny before i go. that way anything i bring back is an addition to my bank account when i get back home.
