This was asked from a cashier I've never seen before, and she didn't say it in a playful voice, just a flat tone. What do you do or say?

If I intended it for her, possibly by stacking $700 in chips on one side of the counter and 4 $1s near the tip container, I would say "Yes".

Otherwise, I find a nice, flat, "No" to be sufficient. I do not have to feed my ego by making a big fuss over things like this.

I've heard of tipping the dealer your change but I've never even thought about tipping the cashier.

Where else can you get 7 replies in a few minutes

By the way, I laughed a bit and said sure but the more I thought about it the more rude I thought it was. I should've said no and maybe said something to the manager.

I remember a time a nice lady at the same casino was mopping the floor and I accidently walked over the area she just mopped, I felt bad and realized I had 3 $25 chips in my pockets so I offered one to her, she said no thanks in such a kind way. Now these are the people I want to tip everytime I go to a casino.

No, it's not for you.

And if you give me $20 out of your pocket, along with my $704, I won't report you.

Cage: Is this for me?

Me: No sorry I need that for hookers and blow

Cage: Disgusted look

Me: What time do you get off?

I am guessing you had the $700 racked up neatly and the $4 off to the side. The cashier was trying to determine if she should place it in the toke box or cash it out.

It was before she begged. Take that $4 and buy a burger

At least she asked, however rude her tone may have been. Ive been stiffed at the cage before.

The good thing about living in the Uk is that tip begging like this is considered unacceptable

I've never had a problem with the cage, but dealers hustle tips all day every day. It's to the point that I don't even have the patience for these asshats anymore. I just tell them right off the bat to knock that **** off or I'll have them written up for harrassing customers. It's been working lately at my "regular" casino and the normal offenders keep their mouths shut when they see me around.

How would they know if you won? You might have put out five grand onto the table and gotten back $704 for a net loss.

Then tell her you will give you 2% of your winnings. Then you can ask her for two hundred bucks...

death stare + 'cash me out please' or something similar. i am so sick of being hustled for tips.

last week in vegas i give a guy a twenty on an 7.90 dollar cab fare and ask for 8$ back. 50% tip has to be well above the norm even if its only $4.10, anyway the scum bag gives me 7$ back bc he knows a 'good tipping' guy isn't going to give a **** about 1$ and probably is just going to let it slide.

Actually, vegas has to be the world capital of this. I have many more of these stories from vegas than LA and I have thousands of hours in LA casinos compared to a couple hundred in vegas.

It could be shameless begging, or it could be an honest misunderstanding.

The only place where cage people are shamelessly fishing for tips in my experience was Caesars in AC. Any time I brought a lot of chips to the cage (not that often), I would hear comments like "Wow, you must've really had a good day", or some related obvious butt-kissing. That was one of the reasons I stopped playing there, rooms that allow such behavior are not being run professionally, and thus I don't want to play in them.

Not sure how this is threadworthy. Either tip them the $4, or part of it, if you intended to, or say no if you didn't.

I would have been fired from any of my past bartending and waiting jobs for this, and when I managed staff of bartenders/waitresses this was a terminable offense. Luckily I never had to fire anyone because I had a great staff and we told them the first day they'd get fired for even discussing tips with customers or with staff within earshot of customers.

If I was in a bad mood I probably would have reported her.

I mean come on, if a results-oriented recreational poker player has a losing night and gets this crap at the cage when cashing out ... that's a player a lot less likely to return.

I usually throw the cashier a buck or two but what is it with people just "taking" their tips on assumptions these days?
