Please don't. I know it seems like a quick and easy way to make money, but it's not. You have less chance of being a TV superstar as someone in a community college play has of winning a Tony Award. Maybe you're some hot stud online or something, but this job is a goddman grind. It's not worth it.

Spend your youth and money going out and doing fun things with people your own age, not holed up in a smoke-filled casino with middle aged degenerates. You will have plenty of time to visit casinos while you're still young, I guarantee. But your brain right now is a sponge. Fill it with better things.

At the very least it just doesn't make financial sense, and this is the age where your financial habits will shape the rest of your life. If it's just entertainment expense... well, there's a lot more and cheaper ways to get entertainment. None of the young adults I see losing at blackjack at $5/hand seem to be happy with themselves at the end of it, regardless of how much fun they're having at the start. Think how many apps that buys. How many visits to Yosemite. How many dinners of high quality sushi.

There are so many better things to do in San Francisco as a bright young person than go off to gamble.

I know you won't listen. Nobody ever does. Good luck.

pfapfap's post is a little bitter and angry but it's worth re-reading.

Unless you're already set for life, you have no business gambling recreationally at this point in your life. Finish school strong, become financially independent, and then gamble if you want.

And if you're already set for life, please go celebrate your 21st birthday by getting drunk and playing the largest poker game you can find.

I think they're all pretty old, at least 30-40years old.

And if you wanna have a little fun go for it, keep it in moderation.

Bay101 is only 20 years old (unless you consider the age of the license going back to Sutter's in Alviso).

Lucky Chances is sweet 16.

Let's see: member of the leading poker forum since 2006, more than 22,000 posts on said site, giving advice to someone not to play poker. Weird.

Biography
I have been playing poker for about 5 years but serious poker for about a year , im 18 years old

rub rub it's good you are putting school as your top priority. dont ever let anyone get in the way of something you are striving for, and if you do go busto, it's a lot easier to go busto at 18 than at 28.

Gold country will have one table of 1/2 max. As far as 1/2 goes, it's not juicy, little action, the fish are decently educated, and is mainly populated by old nits and young internet tags that aren't 21 yet. Definitely not worth your time. meetup.com like PA said is your best bet. If you want I can connect you with stanford/berkeley/san jose home games. Holdem/PLO/dealers choice 50nl-200nl deep (100-400bb buyin normally).

Otherwise just play bovada nomesayin

Last edited by Eifersuchtig; 09-27-2014 at 10:29 PM. Reason: or if you want a short handed like 3-5 people deepstack 1/2 game that lasts all night i could get you in

Nothing depresses me more than seeing some bright young kid get the poker bug, go on a bit of a heater, and then waste away his hours and his youth on a fruitless pursuit. They never last. A fresh group of young faces every year, and then a few years later they fade away broken and dejected.

An 18 year old does not yet have the mental capacity to make these kinds of decisions. Your brain isn't even done growing until you're 25. Fill it with anything other than poker. It's a dead end for a young person. Cherish this time while you have it. Poker will be there later. Your youth won't.

I understand where youre coming from, but poker isnt my life , its a hobby and a dream. I dont spend all of my time playing poker, i have a girlfriend, family, friends, and school that takes most of my time. Poker is just a stress reliver for me and its a passion of mine, but anyways thank you for looking out for me i appreciate it.

Not even close. It's a different casino. It doesn't matter if some of the owners are the same, his question is "casinos", not casino owners or license holders.
