Ahh man, pokers really messing with my head. I think i am actually addicted. Every single week i seem to be depositing a small amount. I am at university and have enough money to get me through it thankfully. For food etc. Should i just give it a rest until i save up a decent amount to deposit... Thus stand a better chance + also it is more important to get my degree right?

It is more important to get a base in life. Thus the degree.

If poker is messing with your head find someway to combat this, talk to friends, family and anyone. They will be supportive.

Yeh thanks, don't get me wrong i'm not going crazy. Just realised it's becoming a problem. A lot of anger builds up when i lose a game etc... But because i try to move up the limits too quick without bankrollmanagement.

Perhaps i try my hardest to get a job and concentrate on university for the time being until i finish next september.

I firmly beleive poker should be played for fun.

Yes, its nice to win a big pot etc and winning certainly makes the game more fun.

So learn proper bankroll management, enjoy the game for what it is, then build from there. The more fun you have, the more money you will make as you will ultimately enjoy the game more.

I think i find there is no fun in it anymore, i find it a grind and get bored and then flog off my stack and think o well maybe next game.

Then take a break from the game - plan a way to come back in maybe 6 months or a year to play it. During that time if you dont want to grind low stakes then put in the time and effort into learning the game, watching videos, trying to improve. You have to consistantly put a great deal of effort into online poker to try to achieve what you want to achieve.

Also during this time you could easily build yourself a bankroll, ie save like $30-50 bucks a month from some sort of part time job or extra shifts doing something. In 8 months you have about $400, underolled for NL25, but enough for a shot at it, im sure I read somewhere that life is about taking shots - Just make sure you can afford it.

I will go and do just that. It is definitely the best option i have at the moment. I do not wish for my studies to suffer either. A career in property should be pretty sound and touch wood can bring in more money than i ever could in poker. Poker was just an attempt to get some extra money that is disposable i guess.

Thanks for the help.

Play socially, like once every two weeks at your buddy's place. Make it fun again.

Yeh i think a live home game is in order with a few beers and a bit of banter and only stake a couple of quid.

I was you one year ago, everything you described was me. I went from playing a few thousand hands a week to nearly quitting entirely. When you slow down and step back and take a look at things from a perspective based in reality as opposed to the millionaire slacker you will see what things really matter in life. When I look at a poker table full of poker pros none of them look very happy at all, I'd rather be happy working a normal job than depressed gambling for millions (not that I did, but it's that drive to play x hands and win x amount of money)

Poker can be a very mentally wearing game when trying to take it seriously. Any given player has no control over the cards that come back which can make the game quite frustrating at times.

Because of this unexpected negative variance that can occur, it is crucial for one to have an outside life of poker that he or she can fall back on. If you turn to your outside life only to find that it isn't going well at all, depression can onset a lot faster.

Keep a nice balance between poker, your outside friends, and personal health. I recommended getting everything outside of poker in order so that when you return to the game, you will be able to withstand the negative aspects of it. Best of luck to you.
