Hello all

How does everyone deal with the dreaded breakeven stretches (and losing)

Currently I'm not sure whether I may call myself a winning player (down ?2K overall) But ''started over'' and beat 2NL FR for 5.4 BB/100 out of 20,000 Hands.

NET: $22.75

Then I tried out 5NL and won $17 @ 5.7 BB/100 out of 3K hands

As of now I've been playing 6max 2NL and am down $27 over 10K hands (mostly coolers AA/KK/QQ fullhouses getting cracked)

So how do you deal with break even and losing stretches after putting in so many hours?

ATM, I'd love to take my monitor, smash it over my head and snap my keyboard in half!

I've quit poker (for like the 7th time) and it's just so much better. I recommend that and finding something else. So many other great things in life.

I did quit for a few months, now just recently I started playing again but am getting fkd so hard (last 3 AA vs 2 pair) then I keep thinking ''ok long term'' > look at a sexy graph

EX: http://www.pokertableratings.com/sta...arch/jrockhaf#

proceed to play again, take more beats and repeat. FML

I would just like to make some extra pocket change. ( not looking to be the next Galfond or someone like that. )

Yet I still continue to tortue myself..hmm

It doesn't matter how many "bad luck" situations you get yourself into, poker is a game that will degrade you no matter whether you win or lose. The success is shared alone and so is the losing.

Only play when you have absolutely nothing else to do (like at night). Don't play when you could be doing something else more productive. Life is too short. If winning and losing is so important to you, it may be better just to play when you know when winning or losing a session won't matter. That's my advice.

I'd say for 99% sure that you are not playing very good -> your winrate really isn't as good as you might think -> your break even stretch can be very long. If that's all you have played online what you said at the OP you could easily still be a losing player.

I would suggest you to spend a lot time stuying the game. Read some eBook(s) like this and watch a ton of videos from leggo/bluefire/cardrunners so you will start to improve your game. Then you get bigger winrate and you won't be making threads named "Breaking even..".

Good advice here.

As an online pro of 5 years, breakeven stretches happen. Had a few around 100K hands. My last was approaching 200K with a lot of bad play/tilt in there, and this made me work harder at my game in particular the mental side of my game (MGOP) and ensuring I try to play my 'A' game as often as possible. I also took a coach. I will get more downswings/breakeven stretches going forward but hopefully I'll have the skills in place to cope better and minimise tilt/bad play when hitting variance. I think that's all you can do.
Wanting to smash things isnt a good reaction (lol, been there many times) and will result in you making suboptimal decisions. You need to identify your triggers and 'manage' them to ensure you stay in control.

Might sound wierd but be thankful for breakeven stretches. Think of them as an opportunity to learn, study, and improve your game.

When things are going good, its human nature to not look towards improvement. The only time we try to improve ourselves is when things are not so good

just human nature. So it may be counter intuitive but without the breakeven and bad stretches, we most likely would never improve our games.

some people have the mindset.. some don't... only deal is if u want to play... you gotta be free of issues... or they will creep in at the tables...
