This forum is like in politics, an echo chamber. Of course the all the people you hear from support huds because you are in a forum with a bunch of winning players.
Go to any live casino where there are tons of rec players and tell them about a site with huds and they will cringe and say thats why online is rigged and they won't player there.
It will hurt the games just by a % of recs feeling cheated because they refuse to learn and use software. There is more comfort in know "well they can't use it against me" and just deposits another $100 bucks
I understand how you did the math to come up with this and it seems logical on the surface. However, the biggest poker boom in history took place in the early 2000's with HUDs widely used. Stars and FTP were bloated with rec players and most didn't know/care if people had HUDs. They were there for fun or figured they could win anyway. I played extensively through those years, with a HUD... never thought much of it and nor did anyone else.
I think the anti-HUD sentiment comes from a couple things, personally...
1. A newer generation of players groomed in an era of "fairness" where things like HUDs are seen as an unfair advantage, despite them being openly available to everyone. What about hand histories, studying? Mentors? Poker groups? Where do we stop saying things are unfair, despite being openly available to everyone who chooses to use them?
2. A faction of players around here who are protective of Global and don't want to rock the boat. Global has made it clear that they want to be tight fisted with data and are not interseted in transparency. Players who have done well at Global see any changes as a threat to their win rate which to them is more important than the larger picture of GP's and poker's future.
Disclaimer: I'm not a HUD-head nor am I making a case that we must have them at Global. (Though I believe they would help root out fraud and solve a lot of the "RNG is bad" arguments around here.)
