Suppose I want to play in a standard, draw without replacement lottery with 49 numbers where you choose 6. My goal however is not to win the first prize, but instead to guarantee that I win at least one 3rd prize for matching 4 of the numbers.
What is the minimum number of tickets would I need to buy to guarantee myself at least one win? (for the purposes of the question, I believe you can assume that a 5 or 6 number match would count)
Additionally, how many tickets would be winners? (This might be 1 or some higher number or may need to be a range.)
