The players at the table are not doing anything unethical - the people making him internet famous are. Everybody watching the stream, posting ITT etc. We're encouraging his poor decision making. It would be like watching the stream of a guy drunk driving. Which in turn caused him to go out and drive drunk more often just to stream it.

Many of the people in this thread, and who are railing him on Twitch are pleading for him to stop playing so high, offering him lessons, and are rooting for him in general. You can't just make a sweeping statement that they are encouraging him to make bad decisions.

I'm not going to make a judgement on whether or not it's okay to take his money, that's the nature of poker, but for you to insist that you are ethical while everyone else is not is pretty out there.

Maybe I misunderstood you, you said that the players at the table are not doing anything unethical.

If you consider it unethical for the rail to sit there and root for him to lose, you must consider the players to be equally unethical, because they inherently want him to lose by merely sitting with him.

Its not unethical at all. Dont give me this Daniel Colman BS. People do things in life to achieve utility. Is it unethical for a casino to offer slots at a 90% payout? What if Im a golf junkie and i spend tens of thousands of dollars on high profile golf and country club fees. Are they taking advantage of my love of golf? People make their own decisions. Nobody is being unethical. Bottom line is gambling is entertainment for almost everybody except poker pros. The recreational guys are actually having way more fun on the felt than most any poker pro. Just look at live pros, they are usually miserable. Maybe its unethical for casinos to allow known pros to play because it may be detrimental on their lifestyle?

It's not about wanting him to lose. The only people who want him to lose are those in a hand with him, pretty much everybody else is rooting for him to win.

I think it's unethical for people to watch the stream and otherwise do things that will stroke his ego, because that's why he's doing this. If it wasn't for us he'd be at low stakes where he belongs. Or not playing poker at all. He keeps playing $10/20 because that's what his fans (for lack of a better word) want him to do.

I think the drunk driving analogy is very accurate. The first time it's entertaining but if the guy starts driving drunk solely because a bunch of people are encouraging him to because they want to be entertained, those people are scumbags, and that's exactly what we are.

Did you just see the word "unethical", stop reading and hit reply? I agree with everything you wrote but that has nothing to do with anything I said.

Driving drunk risks your life and other people's lives. That's a really terrible analogy for playing a video game and risking units of debt against people who are better than you. When you lose in poker, you're still alive and you don't hurt anyone else. If it wasn't poker he'd be blowing it on other stupid ****.

I don't consider voluntary associations unethical. As far as we know, no one is forcing Sticky to play, nor to stream. It's his choice and presumably he is an adult of sound mind, feeble as it may be. Clearly he values what he is doing over the money he is losing. He may regret his choices in the future, but that is his problem, and part of making adult decisions.

Information on how to play poker well, and how to tell if you are doing so, is freely available here. It is inexpensively available in bookstores and training websites. Sticky knows about this site and may even read this thread. He is free to become informed if he so chooses.

No it's not and you know that

He isn't endangering his life or random people's lives. He isn't doing anything that could put him in jail.

It would be more like a girl streaming her excess shopping sprees and continuing to buy overpriced purses because people are egging her on

If you really think it is immoral to watch the stream you should quit playing poker (assuming you are a winning poker player). While your at it, stop watching WSOP coverage on ESPN because most of them are losing poker players too, they are only being encouraged to play because it is such a big deal because everyone watches it.

Or like encouraging a new poster to get into a stream,() of consciousness argument with Masta Aces.

No wonder poker is dead. Some guy wants to gamble away his money for attention and people are calling his mom and planning an intervention. For ****s sake, What are you guys even doing in a poker forum?

This is like having the CEO of ABSOLUT vodka saying "I don't know guys, maybe we should only sell it to people who have never gone to AA or gotten a Public Intoxication ticket."
