The - hey we're just doing comedy like the late shows - thing is misleading. Being made fun of by a heavyset guy with a huge chin dancing around on stage is different. People don't like being made fun of by someone who is great at everything they do, is the Alpha Zero of HU, lives an awesome life, and is quite frankly pretty good looking. When this guy is also a competitor/peer (poker players), it would only be natural for a cascade of negative emotions to develop in all corners.

I like Doug's videos fwiw.

Yeah, if Leno was calling out Letterman and O’Brien for misdoings then that would be a better analogy.

Actually Leno kept all the bickering private and only made a few jokes about it.

“Leveraging audiences” with fake drama does not work when you are already established and have an audience. Not that any of this was fake, imo, it was not.

If you think the list is mostly decent people, then he's a hypocrite who can't get along with anybody.

If you think the list is mostly scumbags, and that it's reasonable to feud with them, then it goes to show that the saying isn't really true.

Either way, it's a pretty dumb thing for him to say.

Assigning a generous 20% ROI (~27% skill edge, including juice minus rewards & bonuses), to add another $9K to the bankroll it's a theoretical race to see how quickly Doug can load a total of $45K of MTTs.

This feels more challenging than trying to win $9K in cash games, simply because one can churn volume way faster in cash, achieving exponential growth and moving up stakes more quickly.

On the upside, MTT juice is less penal than cash rake, and positive variance is your friend in MTTs. Gl Sir with the challenge, will be tuning in when I can.

Why are you using 20% ROI? He's at most going to be playing $5-10s for a long time, 100% is totally achievable at those stakes.

The ~27% skill edge I've suggested, might be a little low but bare in mind that the total average skill edge will be across all buy in levels and its measurement will be more heavily weighted to when the buy ins are bigger, e.g. when he's buying in for $33 further down the road, ~27% is harder to achieve than in $3 comps.

Love how D.Polk got revealed by JNandez. For someone who has just about outed everyone in poker (sorry, supposedly he's just having fun), and then be a total scumbag himself hahahahahahahahha.....wait a minute hahahahahahahaha...if he isn't the definition of a sociopath then I don't know what is. But that´s hardly the latest news is it.

Not a hater though, I like his videos.

It may well be, you are an excellent tournament player, demonstrated by your live and online results. I'm still not sure though about it being massively higher than 20% once buy ins hit $25+ as I believe a ~30% ROI is the figure of the top echelons of online NLHE MTT regs who are full time grinding $25+ buy ins.

Having said that, you are as good as many of them and you can still play the ~$10 buyins in addition to the $25+ ones even when your roll is much bigger.

Congrats on the win last night. Very nice.

Doug,

I suggest you go back and watch some of your streaming content produced or that you were involved in during 2017. Maybe you have changed so much as a person and player over the past year and poker really is on the back burner of your life priorities but that guy still seemed to have a love for the game of poker.

Nobody expects you to be at the level of player as the Doug Polk of 2012 and have that daily drive to improve considering your outside interests and passion in other areas but to go on Joey's podcast and express complete burnout while saying things like; "It feels like work.", "I'll never study again." is a real turn off for prospective players that have been following your brand over the past few years.

You don't have to be a top level player to be well respected and the face of a training site. People love Phil Galfond because of his passion for the game; he doesn't have to be the top PL Omaha player in the world. They respect his accomplishments in poker as many do yours as well but the real reason they want to follow him is because he made it to the top yet still loves the game. That's the very reason why most of us started playing this "game" to begin with in the first place.

"It's felt like so much like a job to me" that's too bad, because it kinda was your job, your channel, brand, 'Upswing,' etc,.. But people change, whether your fans - or - haters want to allow you to do that or not.

I totally enjoyed your YouTube poker news/commentary and hopefully that will continue and if not, oh well, life goes on. It was a fun ride while it lasted. Good luck with your BR Challenge and good luck with your future.

It's better to burn out than to fade away.

Great moment in the BR Challenge just now. Doug was playing in a $320 tournament on WSOP with a ticket he got. Some people were questioning if the tournament should count since he bought in with a ticket and not his bankroll. He was in the middle of emailing support to see how he got the ticket and then he could determine if it should count or not, but he busted the tournament. But once he busted the tournament, he accidentally rebought in the tournament.
