So whats the constructive takeaway? Be more selective about guests, or could Joey have managed the conversation better?

I do think there are points where Joey could have stopped the rambling/trolling, called him out on it in a funny way, and then change the subject by asking some of his patented conversation starters. He did it eventually with the question about poker girl crush and I think things picked up a little at that point.

But then again part of the podcast experience is to get to know the guest and showcase his personality. If the audience has any strong reaction to the guest (good or bad) it is a win from an "interesting podcast" perspective.

That said, I do think some of the rambling/trolling went on for wayy extended periods of time, and the show was not fun in those stretches.

I think Joey did a fairly decent job maintaining the flow of the conversation but how can you get deep into the podcast when this Salsburg guys was clearly taking the piss, I wouldnt include this as part of my podcast portfolio if I was Joey. The content just doesn't compare to the Ben Tollerene cast for example where the guest put his heart out in a humble and honest way explaining the trade off between online stardom and social mediocrity. Yes the content has to be diversified and varied to stay interesting and different podcasts are going to go down different roads but the content needs to stay quality and not be a complete troll, guests cant take the piss like that.
