Which flavor of Reno mage are you running?

Reno mage with medivh and yogg has a very high WR for me, especially against warlock and priests, it's just the games are so damn long. It seems to me that most people at least on the 1 to 5 rank have no idea how to play against me and stupidly die to burst a lot.

As far as I know most of the mage builds I've seen are very similar. I'm not sold on manic soul caster but every list seems to have it so maybe I'm missing something. I also think ink master solia sucks.

When you have 32 points of burst and Emperor is your last card..

can anyone explain to me the use of manic soulcaster in reno mage other than cloning kazakus? in which case isn't youthful brewmaster better? I guess soulcaster interacts with brann and brewmaster doesn't, but I don't like having 1 card in a reno deck that only really has synergy with 1 or two other cards.

in a fatigue war i cloned reno one time and i still lost.

I was wondering this myself. Maybe its because soulcaster is better than brew vs aggro when you just need to tempo it out (isn't it?). Vs control you can keep it in hand and wait for Kazakus, just like you do with Brann in renolock.

Can you explain this for us euros, or provide a link?

I think Manic Soulcaster in a Nzoth deck seems good.

I think Brewmaster is strictly better to get a second Reno or Kazakus or Solia tho.

seems like we could put our heads together and come up with a viable paladin deck

played vs a priest, both his drakonid found fireland portal then both his fireland portals summoned earth elemental .
im stuck around rank 10 for a while, shifting decks way too often.
I watched laughing getting easy legend earlier this month with the freeze mage.
this is unreal to watch him climb that easily with the deck and then trying to emulate and getting rekt.
my 2 favs decks are reno mage and jade nzoth rogue, the discovers cards and steal makes games really fun (unlike MR shaman D).
I really dig freeze mage game play but damn Im bad.

I tried to make a malygos freeze mage idk if it can work as well as standard freeze but for sure people dont expect that at all.

Forget Reno, make Brann part of the classic set. He has to be in the most important legendary in the game right now. He's in every Reno deck, every Jade deck and every dragon deck.

That's because they made this expansion very Battlecry heavy for some reason

If something is an auto include in every deck that's usually a sign it needs adjusting

LOL I watched pwny4hof lose a game because he tried to get cute...

He was playing Renolock vs. a Freeze mage, had just popped his 2nd Ice Block and had him at 1. He had a big board including a Mountain Giant and 4-5 other minions, and Hellfire in hand. He was at 30 health and hadn't Renoed.

He figured he had the game locked so he played a Doomsayer, killing his board of 15-20 damage. After the Doomsayer kills the board, Freeze Mage plays Alexstrasza on himself and heals to 15, and wins 2 turns later.

So I hit Rank 6 on Dec. 7, and spent the past couple weeks bouncing up and down between 11 to 6.

Finally hit Rank 5 today. So for the past 5 months, I've gotten exactly 1 rank higher.

I have a lot of free time so I'll try to make a push for legend (lul).

The decks I'm playing right now:

Pirate Warrior
Malygos Miracle Druid
Dragon Priest (my first serious time with Priest in months, Drakonid Operative is ridiculously good, it'd be good if it were a 6 mana 4/4. Instead it's a 5 mana that cleanly trades up into Emperor).

But I went from 7 to 5 today on a win streak with Dragon-Pirate Warrior featuring Ragnaros. It also has Grommash, but I literally have never drawn him so I'm pretty sure I'll replace him.

5 to legend is a different animal

Gratz on the five once you do it once it becomes trivial every month

Yeah I'm mostly kidding about making legend.

I think the players from ~7-5 are noticeably better than 10-8 or so. I'm sure it's only worse from here on up.

My favorite deck is now OP and my 2nd favorite deck (Maly Druid) has new toys, so I'm liking the grind more.

Also I've probably had 50 fewer disconnect losses this month.

It depends on what time of the month it is, at this time of the month 5 to 10 is very soft. I've seen some atrocious play the last few days so it makes me think that ladder is a little softer this month because the decks are so unrefined

The last few days of the month 5 to 10 may as well be rank 20 in my opinion. Early in the month though it's very solid legend players so I usually get stuck for a while in the bottleneck.

It's a really really awful system and I wish they would not start everyone at basically the same rank every month

The HS ladder is literally the worst matchmaking system ever conceived for a player like myself.

I want to play competitively vs similarly skilled opponents and try to improve. I also want to get some sort of measure of where I'm at skill-wise. To do that I have to grind 300+ games at the start of every ****ing month before I get to play "the real game" at legend. I have a job, a family and other responsibilities. There's no way in hell I can do that each month.

It's a ****ing hamster wheel that's designed to give the average player a sense of progression when in fact there is none. Who knows, maybe it's genius design for the average joe, but it sucks for me.

So instead I just play 10 hours of HS a month to try new decks but have no interest in challenging myself because of the artificial time-sink. If there was some sort of sustained Elo system I could play a moderate amount of games and still focus on getting better, which is what I enjoy in competitive games. It's really demotivating. Heck, I've played this games for almost 3 years now and I haven't even gotten a single golden class yet.

also, 5 mana 5/6 with dragon synergy, battlecry: "Beat your opponent with the best card in his deck" is ridiculously overpowered.

Drakonid Operative literally always finds my Leeroy Jenkins or Ragnaros.

This is a fair take. I've got one golden class but it's only because I'm obsessed with reno mage and have probably 800+ wins with mage.

even for someone like me that plays ~800-1000 games a month the system is terrible. it rewards grinding only. they need to revamp it

good post. hard to disagree with it. i think ive spent more time than i should on hearthstone which enabled me to crack the ladder but it really does reward sinking time into the game more than actually playing the game well, which is a shame

Not to mention the perceived progress rewards people playing mindless aggro decks that are over in a few minutes. Takes a lot of the fun nuance out of the game. Some games are incredibly entertaining where you make tons of important decisions. The system punishes those games, though.
