Hi everybody

Maybe someone can help settle a question (and bet), which came up at our last homegame, where we play cash

The question is: Can a player ask for an exact count by the dealer here?

1. Post flop. The pot is 1000$. Player A bets 300$ leaving him a stack with about 1000$ in different chips. Player B has him well covered, but ask for a count of Player A. To be helpful, Player A shows the table his stack with, but doesn't give a count.

Can player demand the dealer an exact count here?

2. Pre flop. Player C raise to 5BB. Player D asks for a count?

And what about this?

Any expects with some solid knowledge?

I think in most casinos when action is on a player, they are entitled to a clear view of the opponents chip stacks. Clear also includes organized.

They player can ask/demand whatever they like, but the dealer shouldn't be touching/counting chips that haven't been bet (unless chip owner is OK with it).

Home game means the rules are whatever the host says.

There is not a standard rulebook that covers every cardroom. There are some standards that the larger, busier, better run rooms follow.

Most rooms use TDA rules, with or without some local differences.
The TDA rules also apply to cash games.
You can also check out Roberts Rules of Poker (not updated in a while).

Neither circumstance allows for an exact count, in most rule sets. Only time dealer should be counting a stack is if it is in the pot. In other words, only V going all-in would get you a full count of his entire stack.

You are entitled to a clear view of his stack though, including any large denomination chips, which should be clearly visible.

A player can ask for an exact amount anytime they wish. A player is only entitled to an exact count down when another player has gone all in- in which case the dealer should count it down.

If you REALLY want to know, you can stand up, walk over, and give it a REAL GOOD look.

But if you can see the stacks, you can STILL ask "Do you have any 100s/1000s" (or whatever the big chips you are worried about is.

But to answer your LITERAL question, you are only ENTITLED when they are bet at you.
